Why an Economics Major pays well?

@UCBUSCalum My list was not meant to be complete which is why I said “to name just a few.”

@happy1: Sorry, I did see the disclaimer “to name just a few”. I just wanted to illustrate that the most prestigious and elite US universities in the acronym, HYPSM (often quoted in this forum and other sites), MIT, has an undergraduate business school. Michigan was just a throw in. I could have added other elite universities which have undergrad business schools, but I did not.

@Mamelot : The UCB econ/math major or minor person was hired in Goldman’s NYC office. I think if his degree was just pure economics, he might not have been hired by GS. Because he also combined the econ with math and some science (he subsequently got into medical school) with the high GPA, he was perceived as the crème of the crème of the crop and was hired by GS. I know other kids who just majored in econ at UCB and did well. These kids got jobs with Big 4 firms in their consulting department, but not investment banking positions. In the old days, I knew of a UCB person who was super smart who majored in economics without any science or math minor. This person went on to UCB Law (Boalt Law) and was appointed a judge on the Federal bench. He recently ruled on a huge national case.

The Lehman Bros. person, from UCB Haas undergrad, was hired in the SF office (a few years before the firm went into bankruptcy).

In addition, Stanford University (across the Bay from UCB) offers an undergraduate major in economics. Stanford has only a graduate business school and no undergraduate business.

@happy1 : Per above #21, I meant to say sorry, I did not mean of offend anyone. My computer does strange things when I type.
