I might apply to Irvine, but I don't really see many positive things about the school. So can you tell me your reasons for going to UCI and then maybe that will change my views of Irvine.

Fourth best UC behind B, LA, SD... close to beach, Disneyland, Knotts, South Coast Plaza, Laguna, Newport... Ranked as one of the top ten public schools in the US... continues to grow in rankings... beautiful park in the middle of the school.. not crazy competitive like some other schools...

Adding on to that, located in the city of Irvine, which is rated one of the top ten safest cities in the nation. Is Irvine better than Berkeley, UCLA, or UCSD - no. Are you still going to get a wonderful education at the school - yes. If you're going to medical school after college, Irvine is a good school to consider. It's a mid-tier UC, so you won't have to compete with the crazy people at the top-tier UCs. This will keep your GPA high and competitive for medical school admission.

The thing about UCI is that it is still a school that is shaping and defining itself. I know some people that got there and wanted to transfer to UCLA or B, but when it came down to it, they never did and glad they stayed. More and more choose UCI over SD and to tell you the truth, I would pick UCI over UCSD any day. UCSD is great in the sciences, but it lacks the overall programs that UCI does. UCI has a great arts program and will be getting an undergrad business degree within 1-2 years.

Besides the Ivies and a few publics, there arent that many well-rounded schools ahead of UCI in the rankings. I mean, if you dont get into UCLA or B, you might get into Vanderbilt or some other school with a stronger sports program/college life, but do you want to go to Tennesse or another out of state school?

You guys all have some good points and I appreciate your comments. I want to apply to 8 school and I have already chosen 7 of them and I'm now deciding on UCI or UCD for the last spot.

Can any of you guys argue why UCI would be a better choice?

its the only UC in the OC

Dude... apply to whichever because obviously you have your heart set on 7 other schools... unless u get rejected from all of 'em u probably won't attend.. if all the reasons we listed were not enough.. maybe the Davis dudes can talk about the cows they have up there :-)?

yes..the davis posters on here are quite...zealous about their school.

i'm going to uci if i don't get into ucla or ucsd. :)

If you are in California, apply to both UCD and UCI. Why would you omit one or the other? It helps to create more choices/backups and both schools are great. HOWEVER...UCI is the way to go :]. UCI will continue to grow since it is still young. Other schools are already pretty well established and UCI is not well established yet. UCI holds a lot of potential with its fast growing and beautiful location. Irvine is in a young city (about 30 years old) that is well planned out and just...looks awesome (not to mention Newport Beach being next to UCI also).

Well thanks for all of the input. I don't want to apply to both schools, but I decided on which one I want to apply to. UCI -- I love Newport Beach, and I don't really like cows.....

So here is my college list: Ranked in order....well atleast as of right now.

UCSB

UMiami

UCLA

UCSD

SDSU

Cal Poly

Pepperdine

UCI

UCI is below Cal Poly and SDSU? :[! Anger!

Anyway, in a serious matter, apply to a lot of schools in case you don't get into many. It'll open up your chances and you may learn more about schools such as Davis that might make you want to go. This naturally happens as you get accepted and actually look into the schools or visit.

I love SDSU......if it was a little better academically it would be at the top near UCSB.

As for Davis......I know this shouldn't be a reason to not attend a college, but it is too far from the beach. Stuff like weather, location and proximity to the beach are some of the most important things in my college decision.

Most of the people I know of who are going to UCI are doing so mostly because they really didn't have much of a choice (rejected from other schools, only school within its tier to which they were accepted, etc).

Ummm.. I got into every school pretty much that I applied to including: SDSU, UCSD, Cal Poly SLO (the ones that he is applying to) ... and I chose Irvine... most of my friends chose Irvine over Berkeley, LA, SD, SB, Davis, every UC... so WTH are you talking about???

Edit: I must admit that the friend whose SN I am using got into Berkeley and ended up going there... but you get the picture.

why did you choose uci over ucsd?

SD isn't strong overall... it's too competitive.. I like the idea of residing in OC..

sorry to break it to you but Orange County is boring

There sure are more things to do in the OC than in the suburbs of San Jose =P.

"You guys all have some good points and I appreciate your comments. I want to apply to 8 school and I have already chosen 7 of them and I'm now deciding on UCI or UCD for the last spot.

Can any of you guys argue why UCI would be a better choice?"

Just out of personal preference, I prefer UCD over UCI (Not to bash on UCI..It's a great education as well) But if you're adding just one more school to your list, I'd say go for UCD all the way.

Pros IMHO

-UCD is more diverse (UCI is like sixty percent asian)
-The honors program at UCD is really sweet (not sure about UCI)
-UCD has the most bikes per capita in the nation...!
-Change of scenery from Socal
-UCD seems more prestigious than UCI (in my circle of family and friends...again this is very subjective)

In any case, both are good choices and you can't go wrong with either of them. This is just my two cents unsupported by any fancy quoting or hyperlinks...

Cheers.
