Hey The Brian,

There were errors in the reports for UC Davis this year, so they dropped in a few ranks. In reality, UCI and UCD should be either next to one another or two ranks away. Right now, UCD feels more prestigious because it has been around longer than UCI and has established traditions and itself in the college world. UCI, on the other hand, is still growing and establishing itself in the college world. In time, UCI will just keep looking better =].

Prestige depends on the demographic location. UCI is preferred in So Cal, where as UCD is probably preferred in Nor Cal.

socal mentioned journalism as an EC.

is it really an EC? curious since i take journalism as well.

Some people I know chose UCI because they liked the environment.

Personally, /i don't think you should go to UCI. I mean sure it is a very good school academically, but i heard that it lacks spirit since it doesn't have any good sport teams or school activities. Plus, while some other ppl have mentioned the benifits of living in Irvine - close to Disney, the beach...etc, there are a ton of bad stuff (take it from me, I've lived here my entire life ^-^;;)

first of all, Irvine is ultra conservative - ur hedges can't be higher ta a certain height, u need approval from the Irvine district something to build metel fences, and a ton of other junk. I mean sure, it does make Irvine look prettier, but it get's boring fast. Everything looks pretty much the same everywhere.

-It is nicknamed "the bubble" by everyone that lives here since it's so sheltered and well...'happy' if u want to say.

But still, if u feel like u wanna go, the plus side is tad UCI has very good teachers. But beware, u'll get bored out of ur mind after your first or second year.

Well UCI is really a school on its way up and i figure that in the next 10-15 years, saying taht you are a UCI alum will mean almost as much to being an alum from UCLA, UCB or UCSD...I said almost so ppl...dont get mad...anyways, UCI is also on my list but b/c i am from NorCal and most kids from my school go to Davis...i would probably choose Davis over Irvine....it is still a great school and I would be happy to go there...all the UCs have great campuses anyways.

i'm in norcal too, and i'd much rather go to uci than davis.

irvine is socal, baby!

The Brian go spend a few nights at UCI with friends. Attend some sporting events, go to a party, and go to some classes. Ask the kids there what they do for fun. Do the same at UCD, then you will see.

Checking all schools out is a very good idea.

A friend of mine initially went to UCD and was actually the football team's quarterback. After he got injured and got sick of UCD, he transferred to UCI. He had a good friend that was already at UCI and became friends with them before transferring, so it was a pretty easy transition.

While he liked his experience at UCD, he also loved his time at UCI and made life long friends there.

voice of reason, my sister goes to UCI and i've been there tons of times.

i could definitely fit in.

i've never been to davis, but i will likely visit if i don't get into any of the top tier schools.

cool dude and good luck to you with bringing up your test scores and gpa. ucd, uci, and ucsb are in your reach if you do.

actually my stats right now should be high enough for the middle tier.

i'm aiming for ucsd mainly and i'm reaching for ucla.
