It really is, I am applying ED, and I attended the summer program CLAE, so I know all I should know and I am very sure about my decision.

NUclearPenguins, which sport? If you have any questions about athletic recruiting at Carleton I’d be happy to help (I’m also a recruit).

Also, in terms of aid - Carleton gave us decent aid as well, and I was worried because we’re right on that middle-class line between getting no aid and getting a lot. Also, work-study is available for EVERYONE - though I’m sure it’s usually offered, even students who aren’t receiving FA can work on campus.

We were very happy with the FA Carleton gave to my son. It wasn’t the most generous offer he received, but it was close, and light years better than what any of the NESCAC schools offered.

PGonzalez: I hope your D has a great time at SWP! Please let us know!

sstewart, I’m applying ED, too! I love Carleton and I’d do anythingg to go there!

I’d like to add that Carleton is good with financial aid after the freshman year, in my experience.

Margarr93, go us!!, I hope we both get in, if we do, maybe one day we will meet eachother.:)

Though not a student, I have three cousins who attended Carleton. One is the band director at a CT highschool who still plays in various musical groups herself, one is a rather succsesful buisness executive for a consulting company, the other is a litigation lawyer who makes more than the previous two combinded. They all loved it and continue to stay involved as alumni as well as remain friends with there college mates.

Whoo that’s pretty encouraging to hear that aid is pretty generous, especially since Carleton is a very good college. Reecez, it’s for tennis.

NucleapPenguins - Cool, hope to see you there next year! If I can help you with anything let me know.

Sunmachine, D is having a wonderful time @ Carleton’s SWP. I’m pretty humbled that she’s the only student attending from WA State (thought there’d be a couple more from Seattle, Bellevue or Spokane). There’s a lot of class discussion, they enjoy their co-ed intramural sports, etc., outside of classroom time. They had a dance/went to Mall of America over the weekend. D attended mass in Northfield. She had to “redo” her 1st essay (challenging to hear that when you’re used to getting 4.0 back home). D is glad I had encouraged her to attend. This is the best thing she could have done this summer–to gain perspective of LAC standards, discovering what college away from home means, experiencing another part of the country & dorm life for the 1st time, making new friends. We couldn’t be happier for her. Pretty darn grateful!

Reesez, yeah I hope so, financial aid is a concern though. As much as I’d love to go there and play college tennis it can be pricey! Hopefully my grades and test scores will give me some good merit aid.
PGonzales, if I’m able to go there that’ll be another WA native :)

I talked to this yg man who was accepted at a big name school, but decided not to go (didn’t want to take out loans, he says). I say go for it, Nuclear. As I’ve heard–they can’t take the education from you once you get it. The $ is a concern for us too, as it is for many families during these recession times, I’m sure. Where there’s a will, there’s a way! :)

^^ Don’t mean to be discouraging, NP, but Carleton does not offer merit aid, with the exception of a $2,000 per year scholarship for students who are National Merit Scholars or National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars.

Hmmm oh thanks sunmachine. I’ll still apply there but we’ll see how costs are :D

^^^ I think that’s NHRP and Natl Achievement Scholars.

^^ I think it’s National Merit Scholars: [Carleton College: Admissions: Carleton Merit Scholars](http://apps.carleton.edu/admissions/afford/national_merit_tips/carleton_merit_scholars/)

Though maybe we’re talking about the same thing…

^You are. It’s National Merit, National Achievement, and National Hispanic Recognition–and to get the scholarship you only have to be a “Finalist”, not an actual “Scholar” (meaning you don’t have to win one of National Merit’s one-time $2500 awards to get money from Carleton).

^^ Thanks!
