i've noticed that there are a lot of out of state students. so why choose carolina over your state schools?

it's taken me 17 years to realize that carolina is actually a good school. when i first started to research colleges, i didn't even consider usc (i'm from columbia).

it wasnt even on S's radar until he decided on a Sports Management major and started researching the top programs in the US. Then he delved deeper into things he wanted, like an urban locale but true campus, proximity to air transport(needs to travel to NY),big time football, an Honors College setting.added to the mix was scholarship opportunities based on his stats. He was leaning to another U until his visit/interview weekend for the McNair. That sealed the deal and he was a Gamecock thereafter!

My daughter is out of state and chose USC over our flagship state school as well as other flagship state schools in the Southeast. The perks and opportunities of the Honors College were what tipped the scale towards USC. I must admit that she originally applied to USC as a back-up but the personal attention that Carolina gave her during the application and decision making process really sealed the deal and the generous scholarship didn't hurt. Like Cathymee's son, USC offered everthing in a university that she wanted--competitive academics, nationally recognized name, research opportunities, travel abroad scholarships, and a traditional campus with big football!

The number one intl. business program was what made my daughter make her last minute choice of USC. Of course, we're paying full OOS price because of her late decision, but hopefully that will change next semester!

My daughter did a search on collegeboard for experimental psychology, large campus, warm weather and all of her other "requirements" when she was just a sophomore in high school. USC came up on her search, we visited it in the spring of her soph year and it's history from there! Honestly, I'm from PA and USC has it over Penn State all the way! PSU is a nice school, but what USC has to offer dollar for dollar, is so much MORE than Penn State. I'm a teacher and USC is the "up and coming school" according to our Guidance Counselors!!
