why chicago essay length

i've written up my essay on why i want to attend the university of chicago. the prompt says that the length should be about one to two paragraphs. i have two paragraphs with about 250 words in each. so the total wordcount is about 500
is this too long? should i cut down the word length? or is length a good thing, since it shows that i have a lot to say about chicago?

The paragraphs sound like they might be long and possibly lack good structure if they're each 250 words (that's almost a page long each). Try and be concise. If they only want 2 paragraphs max, they're not expecting a paper. A paragraph is typically around 3-8 sentences with an average length of probably around 5.
