Just curious to what some of your answers are...

My son...
liked the size, the location, the well-rounded academics, the casual atmosphere, the seemingly friendly students, and the proximity of the other four colleges which kept it from seeming too small.

I like the Russian major, course offerings, and small town atmosphere.

I wanted to go West, but wanted an East Coast style Liberal Arts School with a strong science program

I want a small college with small classes and an outstanding overall education. I like the chemistry and Chinese programs. Also, I will be able to play baseball!

My daughter, who is from the zone 11 of Miami, likes warm weather.

Combine warm weather with strong LAC -- you get a limited number of schools. Really, the list is so small, she could count the schools on her two hands. And, Pomona leads the pack.

Great environment, great academics, warm weather (smog is there though) make a great blend.

To put it simply, if it were not for many parents having an adverse reaction to their child flying 3000 miles to attend college, the applicant pool would be grotesquely large and the ability to get in would be next to impossible.

A simple analysis is that if Pomona were not in the suburbs of the western United States -- like if Williams were not in the woods of western Mass. -- these gems of LAC's would have more oppressive admissions numbers than even the most prestigious ivies.

1) i want my mom to do my laundry on the weekends.
2) more relaxed than some east coast schools i visited
3) "close" to a big city

Gorgeous, gorgeous campus; relaxed, non-competitive environment; small seminar-style classes; wide variety of majors; cross-registration through the CC; diverse student body; personal attention from professors; language housing opportunities; strong English program; warm weather; ...cool mascot?

I agree, Father of the Boarder; very frustrating.

hey father of the boarder, i find it really interesting that your daughter applied to pomona. from what i've seen florida is a severely underepresented state at pomona, esp. considering its population. well i mean there are some florida kids but just a lot less than i expected. i think it's mainly because if florida kids like warm weather, they might as well just stay there to go to college rather than fly all the way across the country. or maybe they're tired of warm weather and want a change. anyways, i hope your daughter gets in!
