I've read the threads below, saying that JHU is the best school to go to. But that doesn't really convince me. I've been to Baltimore myself, during my east coast tour, but I didn't think JHU was even close to best, honestly. Someone give me some reasons why you have chosen to attend/apply to JHU.
In my case, I like MIT better because their curriculum is flexible, people are friendly, Boston is the best college town, they are really "need-blind" (I've heard JHU really isn't), and their food is great.

Besides the fact that JHU is the most famous for medical schools and its facilities w/ medicine, what makes you want to go there?

Please don't take this as an act of mocking JHU. I really want to hear from the people who have a passion about JHU. Thanks.

*No core curriculum.
*One of the best schools for my major - IR.
*Campus is amazing.
*Excellent research possibilities.
*Baltimore -- I love the Inner Harbor and Fells Point.
*The people -- everybody I met was extremely friendly and I really felt comfortable. The whole cut-throat myth is ridiculous.
*LACROSSE - of course.
*Covered grades policy.
*I loved the rock climbing wall in the rec. center.
*Size - not too small, but definitely not too big. I have been amazed about what personal attention you can get from professors.
*SAIS in DC.

That is a quick list - but there are so many other reasons why JHU was the right fit for me.

But I will say it is not the right fit for everyone -- If you liked MIT so much more than apply there. College choices are all about fit and it seems you didn't like JHU. Well then, in my opinion, your decision has been made. Good luck.

The IR program at Hopkins is amazing and one of the top reasons why I came here. During a visit I got to meet with Professor Steven David, Director of the International Studies program, and he really sold the program to me.

For any number of reasons I think the program excels and gets its strong national reputation. There is great flexibility within the major, so I am not confined to a single area. The access to SAIS is a huge plus, and I am still strongly considering doing a 5-year BA/MA program. And finally every professor I have had has been an expert in his/her field and very engaging in and out of the classroom.

As you might have read from my previous posts, I love being a Hopkins student and so much has to do with how much fun I have here. The whole cut-throat / intense myth is ridiculous, and doesnt come close to describing JHU. Though IR is the largest major at Hopkins, no one cares what grades everyone else gets and many work together.

Besides the academic prestige, because if I get in, my mom is looking into a job at the hospital and my dad a job at the university so I'd get free ride from sophomore year on. xD

Other than that...I love Baltimore and Johns Hopkins has one of my favorite campuses. (About tied with Northwestern, but I'm biased)
