Basically the title says it all.
A lot of colleges and universities added one or two days to complete one's application (good for procrastinators), but I just received an email from Brandeis saying they extended their deadline to Feb 1. Do they simply want to lower their admission rate as much as possible or why are they doing that?

We want to give you every chance to finish the application. Extending it more than a few days is a little odd. Perhaps Brandeis is down on apps or noticed a very large number of accounts in their system that were close to completed, but never submitted.

Well NYU delayed it one day to the 16th cuz the 15th was a public holiday.

drew's been sending me emails ever since november. they've extended their priority applciation deadline about 5 times now, first from november i think now to feb.

Some of the schools that have sent my d e-mails with priority applications (no fee, no essay, fast response) have extended the deadlines for her. Perhaps the Brandeis extension is one of those ilk.

UNC extended their deadline to this Sunday "due to the extraordinary demand of our freshman application"...

Haha - funny story. So about five kids from our SMALL school are applying to Swarthmore. Four of us (including me) sent our apps in on time. However, one didn't - one URM didn't - but one who probably comes from a family more well of than the one I come from, didn't. Why? He got a letter from Swarthmore indicating that he had until the 19th to finish the app. So yes, Swarthmore extended the app for a select few of their applicants... - their URMs.

At this point I kind of feel like one should have to apply for URM status - send in a FAFSA, maybe a picture, and some other things to prove that not only are you racially inclined, but ALSO disadvantaged. I canNOT stand it when URMs who are more affluent than many get preferential treatment!

Various reasons. I believe last year Cornell extended the deadline for a week (as well as a few other schools) because it received too many apps and needed more time to organize them anyway.
