why do people say HYPS but not HYPSM , M for MIT?

why do people say HYPS but not HYPSM , M for MIT?

IMHO I go with HYPSMCC (MIT Chicago, Columbia)

They do. You see HYPSM used regularly.

They are too lazy to type that last letter…

MYSHP, toss in the IITs and you get MYSHIP.

Because MIT is a fit primarily for students who are either STEM majors and or bring a strong quantitative background to whatever they are planning to study - so the school’s target audience is narrower. An English major isn’t going to apply to MIT. They would apply to HYPS.

i usually see HYPSM. The C, if it’s added, is ambiguous. I doubt it means Chicago though (Chicago is a notch below all these other schools) it either means Coumbia or Caltech. If you include MIT, i imagine you’d be committed to also including Caltech.

People put HYPSM all the time. This is just a small taste of what’s out there:

This is important because…?

Two year old OP

I recall someone here advocating CHYMPS, which is more pronounceable as an acronym, with the “C” standing for Caltech.

You can just say C since the University of Chicago, as everyone knows, is a notch above the other schools.

UChicago has produced more Nobel Prize Winners than Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, and MIT, because it is the best, most serious university in the country.

The Ivy League schools and Stanford are known for being lightweight and superficial–more interested in prestige than substance, as the silly comments on this thread and CC show.

America is basically an anti-intellectual society and the average dumb high school student and their parents are solely interested in how hard a school is to get into rather than what students learn once they get there.

Most of these “Einsteins” will spend four years hanging out in college before they head off to a life on crime on Wall Street.

People say HYPSM all the time. Everyone knows that Stanford is more sought after than all the other schools, though. We should have a new tier of prestige - HS. ;)
