Please enlighten me. Every time I visit a college campus (doesn't matter which one, I've been to many), I see at least one kid with atrocious facial hair and I've never understood why they would want to look like that. It's not even like normal looking facial hair. It's, well... it warrants an unfortunate description, if you catch my drift.

At least one != many.

I meant at least one per time I visit a campus. Some I visit several times, and it’s always a different guy. I’d say that 90% of all guys I’ve seen with ugly facial hair have been college students.

It depends on how you define “ugly”, bro/sis. Get used to it.

Being lazy and not enough time is probably the reason.

We talking Hipster beards here?

Haha my cousin was “that guy”. We called it his Jesus phase

I’ve noticed a lot of guys go through a repulsive facial hair phase. Whether it’s a Dumbledore beard or a soul patch, it’s completely disgusting and unflattering.
For some reason, they think it’s cool. My dad actually grew one that made him look like Paul Bunyan of all people.

I suspect it’s probably due to the fact that (for many people) college is the first time they’re able to successfully grow facial hair, and they are merely having fun with their new-found…ability?

Because in most highschools facial hair isn’t allowed, so kid gets to college and finally gets to stick it to the man.

^Really? My high school didn’t have any rules against it…hmmmm…

Keyword: Most

Enforcement is also an issue, with facial peircings, clothes, jewelry(chains mostly)
Might be surprised what is against school regulations but go unpunished.

^I actually just dug up my old high school’s rule book and apparently it was not allowed…then again so was a lot of stuff that I saw on a regular basis…my school had TERRIBLE enforcement :D

Public schools, eh.

I’ve read that there are some school districts where parents/students have brought up the facial hair issue up to the supreme court who, in turn, ruled it as unconstitutional.

straight outta wikipedia:

also, why do you care? fogeddaboudit. maybe they like to look like that? they probably don’t think this, but what’s wrong with being ugly, disgusting, and unflattering? beards are cool. they want to look like that because they want to look like that.

sorry some college students don’t fit your model of good-looking #firstworldproblems

google No Shave November.

No Shave November actually makes sense because it’s for a cause. I don’t really have a problem with full-out burly beards, or really well-kept facial hair either. Yes, you could say that I have a problem with the typical college “hipster beards.” You know, the creepy ones that look a bit… wrong.

“I suspect it’s probably due to the fact that (for many people) college is the first time they’re able to successfully grow facial hair, and they are merely having fun with their new-found…ability?”

I guess this makes sense. I don’t know if “successfully” is the right word for the people I’m talking about, but yeah… If anyone has more to add, feel free.
