Why do you go to college?

“Each has his past shut in him like the leaves of a book known to him by heart and his friends can only read the title.”

“Every one of us is a wonder. Every one of us has a story.”

:)

Just to be qualified for my career. I’m in Computer Science, and it seems like kind of a mixed bag: I like the programming, but the networking/data-structures stuff seems very tedious and useless (it might not be if I was going to be a network engineer, but I’m going for video game design).

awwwwww ;_;

okay i think i can add to the quotes on storytelling. lemme see if i can find it. oh, here it is… it takes a bit of a different angle but i think its still a nice quote.

"Somehow the inclination to write about my private life in public is related to the ability to do so. It is not enough to say that my mother and father do not want to write their autobiographies. It needs also to be said that they are unable to write to a public reader. They lack the skill. Though both of them can write in Spanish and English, they write in a hesitant manner. Their syntax is uncertain. Their vocabulary limited.

the man who sits in his chair so many hours, and the woman at the ironing board—‘keeping busy because I don’t want to get old’—will never be able to believe that any description of their personal lives could be understood by a stranger far from home."

I go to college because I have no motivation otherwise. If I didn’t, I would be on the brink of starvation (because nothing where I live is cheap and pay is not good) and would be extremely lonely. I don’t have any direction as to where my life goes, and I seriously do not want to work tech/community college jobs for the rest of my life, as I would probably physically harm myself greatly.

I needed a direction, and the military wouldn’t do. This is my last chance to fix my life or go down with everything: 21 years, wasted, alongside all the paper, air, water, food, etc. that I consumed.

That is different (and nice), enfieldacademy. Definitely takes more of a look into the seemingly profane that we sometimes come to not appreciate (like a college education, perhaps?). It may be ordinary to one person yet truly inspirational to another. For in all sincerity, “It is not the voice that commands the story: it is the ear” (cue awesome quote transition).

It is simple. Of course, years from now, you want to experience how to become successful, You want to have a good life. You want to earn a real big money. Since uneducated person will only get lower salaries where if you are a graduate, there is lot of opportunity that might come in you way. And of course, you want to make your parents proud of you that somehow you survive and manged to finish your studies. That one step is a great success.

I go because I need a degree for a Federal job and there’s no way I would get hired without one. If it wasn’t for this fact and that the GI Bill is paying my way through school now, I honestly most likely would have never gone back. Not exactly an inspirational story I know, but the realities of the job market killed whatever dream I had, I’ve resigned myself to pragmatic goals.

I’m super excited to study and have more access to information that I’m interested in - in my case, biology (human biology, nutrition, genetics in specifics). I want to have research opportunities when I have time for them and when I’m responsible for my own time; I wish I’d done some research in high school but it’s much harder to participate in science fairs/ research without much time after school :frowning:

Additionally I just want to see what it’s like to live alone, to live in a different city. I’m just excited to open up my future, as cheesy as that sounds.

There are a number of options and it is still relatively cheap compared to colleges around the nation. Plus, the outdoor recreation is amazing and contrary to what you may have been told there is plenty of culture here.

For one purpose only: to make more money.

Can’t wait to go back to an all science/engineering schedule on Monday!

Because it’s so darn fun and exciting to get to solve problems, learn complicated and cool concepts, and to be able to piece together majestic pieces of art with what you learn.

I do my best, because why not, it’s fun and feels good to be able to solve problems right?

I personally enjoy challenging myself intellectually. Believe it or not, I take pleasure in how passionately the professors teach us which makes me even more motivated. I want to learn as many skills as I can for the future.
