Tell me why
i’ll tell you whether i hate your reason or not

I really want to attend Penn because you go there, and judging by your obvious coolness, I would love for us to be friends.

cuz i b nerdy
seriously, though, the people are awesome, the school is awesome, the place is awesome, what more could you want?

vicuna most people aren't as cool as me so your reason is not valid. If you came here you would realize that just judging by one really cool person like myself would leave you disappointed with the student population

and collegenow how do you know all that? did you read it on the penn website?

awesome is also rather a subjective assessment.

what's your definition of awesome?

Your presence is enough.

i admit, awesome is rather sujective, but its my opinion, so why should it be objective?
awesome- what i like
neobez, i read stuff on the website, the awesomness i inferred.

My dad really wants me to go to Cornell (where he went), my sister wants me to go to Dartmouth (where she goes), and I want to go to Penn because:
a) they have great programs in both biology and cinema studies
b) no one I know or anyone from my family has ever gone to Penn
c) it's far enough away from where I live so that I don't feel completely suffocated (buffer zone, anyone?)
d) even at the risk of sounding "subjective," I believe it to be awesome :)
e) er, all of the above?

I think one word is sufficient: Wharton

what about wharton?

a name is just a name unless there's something to back it up.

tenebrousfire, the name is enough

i'm simply asking for more specific reasons.

otherwise the answer to this thread's question would be that penn's name is enough...

the Penn Symphony Orchestra! and Penn's bountiful resources/facilities.

"Social Ivy". That should give you a clue about the people at Penn.
Mucho diversity, as well, although I'm underrepresented. The fact that you can still have fun while people know you attend a very good school.

Honestly, heres what I want:

1) Business program: awesome <-- subjective? haha. business + liberal arts + prestige = awesome.
2) Intellectual atmosphere, but not the "nerdy" kind. People seem to know how to have fun.
3) Philly, not in the middle of nowhere, not in the middle of the city, just perfect.
4) # of students: not as big as UT Austin where you are just one more, but not few enough that you can't find people with similar personalities & interests.

haha, i'm asking in order to get the prospective / applying students to think of specific reasons that really appeal to them...

i don't particularly need new reasons from other people, i already go here and have plenty of my own =)

-
oh yeah...Wharton

ED forces me to go.

It has very similar demographics to my high school with respect to the number of Jews and Asians, but Penn has more URMs.

It was the only college my parents and I could compromise on.

Because some of us are too good for Princeton ;).

EAD needs to calm that down a little. its only a plus if ur a hott indian guy.
haha im jkk

"4. Because some of us are too good for Princeton ."
tru dat.

i think the fact that the second i stepped foot on campus was when i actually fully realized wat i wanted in a college kinda sorta makes penn my wet dream obsession.... im kidding.... no im not... lol jp.

before you talk about the intellectual atmosphere being something you want, just know that personally, I think it leaves something to be desired. I just find most of my classes intellectually dead with little discussion. maybe that's just the classes i've been in, but that's just what I've experienced - i'm not the kind of person who will praise their college endlessly. i encourage you guys to make sure it's the school you think it is.
