Why do you have to rank the schools you're sending scores to in order of preference?

<p>I just signed up for the ACT, and selected the schools to send my scores to.</p>

<p>Since it said to do it in order of preference, I figured there was a reason. Will the school that I put as #1 (UIUC) notice that I put them as my first choice on the ACT thing and favor me later on, or is there really no reason for the required prefrential order?</p>
