What are your reasons for applying to/attending Williams?

Everything. I'm applying because I love the size, I love the spunkiness, I love their humor in their materials they send me, I love Winter Study and mountains to hike in, I love a small school with big dreams, I love everyone there that I've spoken to...

Wow, I hope I get in. Applicants should all totally post on this thread. Why do YOU like Williams?

For one, I love the location. Bucolic, beautiful, but so HAPPENING. There are 2000 college students, all bright and passionate, in that little town, so things have to be going down all the time. Performances, shows, art showings, etc.

Also, I like that much of the student body is athletic. I don't plan on playing varsity sports, but I'd want to play club and I rock climb and hike a lot, so it's nice to be around people who share those interests in fitness and health.

Another thing, the arts. Williams has such strong art and art history programs and a bunch of great resources nearby. I don't plan to major in art history (I'm literature, philosophy, and creative writing oriented), but I have always loved art, so this particular strength of Williams' is definitely a draw.

Williams is also 3 hours from my home, which is enough to keep my parents away but not so much that it is too inconvenient to come home during vacations.

4-1-4 term schedule is also a big draw for me. I just can't imagine spending an entire four weeks during the year away from college.

Unfortunately, I applied regular, so I don't find out until April. =/

no loan.. this is a serious matter to consider..

Let it be said that those not really interested in fitness and health will have it a little harder fitting in.
Let me mention that most of these "fit and healthy" people actually drink more than those who don't.

Yes the location is beautiful...I need to stress that BEAUTIFUL. But in this beauty lies something else, isolation (CITY DWELLERS BEWARE). The social scene mostly consists of large binge fests, and most of the performances and showings end at 10 pm, conveniently when most of the parties start. Williams is a very difficult campus for those wanting to avoid alcohol or large, impersonal, sweaty parties.

I feel kind of skeptical that Williams parties can be "impersonal"... the place isn't much larger than my high school!

I should have been more precise. The parties are very impersonal for those that want a sober environment, as most people at these parties are already drunk and have no problem throwing themselves into a crowded dance. For the sober freshman just getting used to college life, it could be very unfulfilling.

"CITY DWELLERS BEWARE"

I know of several students from large cities who purposely chose (and preferred) Williamstown as a refreshing alternative to life in a megalopolis.
