LOL sports do NOT suck. Are you kidding me? We just gave both Duke and UNC a serious run for their money 2 weeks apart. And that’s when we are supposed to be having a down year and UNC and Duke are Top 6 teams in the country. Yeah, we lost both, but we were in both almost the entire time and oh yeah, the atmosphere at Comcast? AMAZING. After, Ryan Kelly of Duke said Maryland’s the toughest place to play in. Kendall Marshall of UNC just tweeted after today’s game that Maryland fans are the most passionate in the country. 17,000 fans in Comcast Center going nuts simultaneously makes for one fun night.

Basketball is more than alright. We are on the way back up - and I’m not even sure what I mean by that considering we were Co-ACC regular season champs and a miracle Michigan State shot being missed away from the Elite 8 just 2 years ago. But we are a young team with a lot of potential, not to mention some solid recruits coming in next year.

Football, yeah, we sucked this year. But a) We were 9-4 last year and b) That doesn’t mean there can’t be a sick atmosphere in the future. The Miami game was absolutely insane, and the Clemson homecoming game (which we led in the 4th quarter in) was pretty cool too.

Yeah, football is not going to compare to the experience at like OSU or Michigan or something, but basketball? People started getting in line at 6 a.m. for the Duke game a couple weeks ago (that was the earliest they were allowed to). The gates didn’t open until 7:30 p.m. In the big games, Comcast is as good an atmosphere as ANY school in the country. Seriously.

Yeah but for now our two “big name” sports, football and basketball, ain’t that great.

But we are excellent in other less televised sports. Men’s lax and women’s field hockey especially (my geeky sister who could probably get into Harvard has said she’d go to Maryland in a heartbeat if she got an offer from their field hockey team).

@Bornin92: I WAS at the Game yesterday, and TOTALLY agree with you! I was right behind the boys, and the passion that our coach has for the team is at the same level as our love for the School! The team is fresh and fairly new, our coach is new, but the Spirit will prevail! If anyone doesn’t have that spirit to begin your Freshman year at Maryland, please don’t bash us, and please, don’t attend! We are ALL a team, in and out of the court!

As long as Stoglin doesn’t leave for the NBA (which would be boneheaded, he’s too small to leave this early), we could be quite good next year, which is when the incoming freshmen would be here. Top 25 next season is possible if this team keeps growing. We’re a young team, and people like Alex Len will benefit immensely from an offseason to hit the weight room and improve their skills. Len could be an absolute monster in a year or two. He’s struggled in ACC play, but he had a great game yesterday against a very tall and athletic UNC frontcourt, one of the best in the nation (I admittedly thought he was going to get destroyed, but he proved me wrong). There’s so much potential there.

Hmm I agree about basketball. If we do make the tournament this year we could pull a lot of upsets. As long as the school pride and spirit is booming then yes. I don’t want my college to be a dry campus or have no spirit. That’s a big reason I didn’t even consider JHU. A mix of great social scene and academics is ideal. I know for sure Maryland got academics on check. I need some confirmation on the social scene from y’all, ya know what I mean?

Well OP, I feel that now that I’ve made my decision to enroll at CP I should explain why I want to go. Since I live in Maryland pretty much everyone I know applied to maryland. And because I believe I live in a rather good school system, Montgomery County I expected many smarties to get in. Apparently a LOT of them got spring semester! One of the guys I know had a 3.8 UW GPA with a 7 APs and got spring! I guess it’s rather competitive and selective (44%) and it does have a good rep. So because of that and direct admission into scholars and engineering I had to take the offer. And after my most recent visit (been there many times), this one was kinda unofficial and I just digged the campus feel. Campus is just nice to look at on a sunny day! Im feeling good about maryland, I also like the fact that I will still meet new people since the school is 30000 students and 36ish % of them are out of staters…just hope they’re not all from Jersey and NY (not that i dislike them haha just want real diversity). Imma have to just survive terp football but bball looks promising in a few years with the recruiting classes. When I come in Stoglin and Len will be 1 year better and Cleare looks good. A good plus is that I got a pretty sick snapback for Maryland.

But anyways, if you go to maryland, there may not be some great big standout like super sports like Ohio St or UNC or super academic prestige like UVA or Hopkins but theres nothing super suckish about CP. Ya got good everything (top 25 in undergrad programs that… matter to me eg. engineering and business). A lil bit of this a lil bit of that and all of the full college experience. And proximity to DC and Baltimore with your own metro stop is what’s up.
