This is truly a tough choice for me. I've grown up loving UMD, I love the campus, the sports, the people, most everything about the school. However I'm in-state in virginia. I did get academic money from maryland, but money isn't really an issue. I've visited UVA, and I do like it, as its undeniable beautiful and its academics are probably a step up from Maryland. I'm a little concerned I won't like the people as much at UVA, but at the same time I think its a big enough school for everyone to find their niche. I'm not entirely sure what I want to major in, but right I think I'm interested in Business. I know McIntire at UVA is one of the best schools in the country. Will going to UVA for business really give me a strong advantage over business at UMD and in terms of a future job? Thanks for any opinions.

Dude I’m facing the exact same dilemma between UVA and UMCP. I visited UVA DOTL on 22nd… and didnt like it much. It’s full of no-life nerds. The studies/academics are going to be better and harder in UVA, but the overall experience at UMCP is better. It’s sooo confusing! Let me know what you do

haha dude its such a tough decision. Do you live in virginia or maryland?

UMD does a great job in securing internships & has a solid reputation with recruiters. I know you can go crazy looking at all the rankings out there, but have you seen this WSJ ranking?

I am facing the same decision right now except that I am in-state for College Park. I just arrived in Charlottesville today and am attending the Days on the Lawn event tomorrow so we’ll see how it goes. It is a very hard decision indeed! I love UMD and was accepted into their engineering school which I believe is ranked higher than UVA’s engineering. I also love CP’s campus and the large student body; I guess you could say I’m leaning towards UMD right now but I’m looking forward to seeing what UVA has to offer tomorrow!

UMD’s academic mall is bigger than UVA’s by 6 inches on all sides. Just saying. :P

GoSox, let me know what you think of UVA! and trust me, I love UMD’s mall. I personally like it more than UVA’s :p

One thing to take into account when selecting a college, is the actual feel of the atmosphere there. College success will not only be based on academically matching, but socially enjoying that school.

Kids transfer because they never click with the school. It is an emotional wear on them which than can translate into academic issues.

UVA is known to be snooty, UMD is considered party. Too polar opposites in the image category.
