University of Maryland or Virginia Tech

Someone please help me! I cannot decide which school to attend! I want to major in biology....

UMD:
+In-state
+Close to home
-Admitted Spring Semester (so I would probably attend Freshman Connection)
-Did not get into my major (Letters and Sciences)

VT:
-Out of State
-Kinda far from home
+Got in for my major
+The food is really good

What should I do...?

visit again both schools as an admitted student , imagine yourself there for 4 years and get the vibe only you can feel.you’ll know then. good luck!

Which specific major? UMD has a lot to offer, especially if you switch majors (Most people I know, including me, have switched at least once). Letters and Sciences is more of a grouping of content than a specific major.

I’d visit both schools just to be sure, but I’ve loved all four years at UMD. Every single one.

where’s the “like” button , VikBhandari, lol
Im a Sophomore and I love UMD with passion!

I still haven’t met someone that doesn’t like it here. I’d say that is pretty impressive.

It has boiled down to those two for our son also, though NC State and U of D are also still on the radar. Va Tech just really calls to him-though it is a large school with many opportunities, it feels intimate. He loves the setting near the mountains so that he will be able to pursue outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, skiing, rafting. He is looking forward to the excellent food choices and the great school spirit. The internship and job opportunites for his major (engineering) are outstanding at Va Tech. It is much farther from home, and it is much more expensive as UMD is in state for us. UMD also has great school spirit and a great reputation but he does not like the urban region-he prefers the mountains. If both schools offer equal opportunities in your expected major, including research or graduate work access and jobs/internships, you have to look at what is important to you and where you feel best. We really feel college educations have become ridiculously expensive and that the cost is not always worth it if you pay too much, but he is really drawn to VT-it is just the right fit for him. As much as we would like to tell you what to do, you have to look inward and decide what calls to you…and what you can afford. Good luck deciding. Both are excellent options!

@dowzerw: agree, you need to follow your instinct. it looks like he has made up his mind.
good luck to you!
