Why do you want to go or you are currently at MIT?

I chose MIT above the schools I was admitted to this past year because of the area and its emphasis on undergrad research, education, etc... This may seem kinda weird, but I like a school that prides themselves in being a little tougher...because I'm willing to work extra hard and learn. Also, nothing can beat a city like Boston, IMO.

Are you considering MIT?

yes heavily .. Its like my first choice! I want to take Business and Computer Science.

MIT is where I should be heading right?

When it is the best time to visit?

Can I get interviewed on campus?

Thanks

I chose MIT because I know it will give me the kind of engineering education that I need to realise my fullest potential.

GoCollege- MIT sounds like it would be an awesome place for you. I suggest visiting sometime when school is in session...like spring or early fall. I know you can sneak into a few classes you are interested in, just to see how things work.

I'm not sure about the interview on campus thing. Perhaps someone else can answer that?

"I chose MIT because I know it will give me the kind of engineering education that I need to realise my fullest potential."

I would second that,if I would of gone to somewhere else I would of felt bored and graduated early(damn Hass reqs and chem dept)

The experience can't be found anywhere else, even at that "other institute of technology."

I don't think you can interview on campus; at least, I've never heard of it being done. There are educational counselors all over the country who interview applicants, so you'll be able to interview close to home.

I agree with the suggestion to visit in the fall -- a lot of people are leaving for the summer starting next weekend, so you wouldn't get a good idea of what campus life is like if you came this summer. School starts for us next term right after Labor Day.

As for the original question in the post -- I think I came to MIT for all the wrong reasons (because it was prestigious, because it was far away from home), but I've stayed because I'm genuinely in love with science, because of the atmosphere here, and because of the opportunities here which can't be had anywhere else.

:D
i chose MIT because of the web site.. which showed how dedicated ppl there were to make themselves available to anyone who needed help with questions and all. I also applied there because of UROP :)..and yes..charles river :D

thanks for all responses

one of my friends had an interview oncampus as well as another with an EC. if you really want an admissions officer interview and are willing to visit during the fall, i guess you can.

I am going to try that

do you recommend me sleeping at MIT for one night?

Thanks

I highly recommend doing an overnight stay with a student -- it's a good way to see if the culture of MIT is right for you. Attending classes and taking the campus tour are all well and good, but you're not really going to learn what it's like to be a student here unless you do an overnight visit.

yeah.. When can I go??
only in the fall??

should I take my laptop?

Whats the closest airport to MIT?
Is it easy to get there if I go alone?

Logan Airport in Boston is convenient. If you are alone, you can either take a cab, or go on public transit, if you're comfortable with that and do not have too much luggage. The helpful Information Booth people at the airport will give you a map of the subway (the T) and tell you how to do it, if you ask them. You take a free shuttle (Massport) from the airport to the T stop, buy a token, and change twice (the method I use is: blue line 3 stops, orange line 1 stop, red line 3 stops) before getting off right at Kendall Square/MIT. It's an easy walk from there to the middle of campus.

If you're going on an overnight to get a feel for what the place is really like, you'd probably want to leave your laptop at home.

quick aside, don't let your overnight stay make or break your decision of MIT. I've heard some people had some rather uncharacteristic nights while here, while others had great ones.

The opportunities while at MIT are boundless and unmatched. This is one of the main reasons I came here, and also the fact that they're considered #1 for EE. :)

Ooh, I would suggest blue --> green --> red, especially for someone who's never been to Boston. The green line has a higher train frequency, more visible signage, and fewer murders per year.

Less tongue in cheek, I came to Boston by myself for my MIT visit as a naive kid from the Midwest who had never been alone in a big city, and I didn't have problems getting where I needed to go. I wasn't even too scared. ;)

I will do that!!

I think I will grab a cab it is easier..

Is Boston safe for me to go alone?

I shouldnt be to worried about security I live in one of the worlds most violent city's

I went alone (took the T), and didn't have any problems...
