Why do you want to go to Columbia?

Ok, so there's this question on the Columbia app that asks what you find most appealing about Columbia. I figured we could share why we want to go there and help each other brainstorm some ideas.

I'll start: because Columbia has some of the best history professors, aka Eric Foner

The emphasis on humanities in the core curriculum. I'm planning on studying international relations (Poli Sci major though, as there's not stand alone IR major at Columbia), but what I'd ideally like to do is combine the cultural and political aspects of international studies, and the social sciences and humanities classes in the core curriculum will help with that.

NYC is one of the best places in the US besides Washington DC for international relations. It has the UN, consulates and embassies, tons of cultural and political organizations, general population diversity, etc.

The general quality of education.

Even though it's in NYC (which is still a good thing), the neighborhood and campus are comparatively quieter, and there is actually greenery.
