My mom said she's talked with a lot of people and they say it's not even worth going there. Is it really that bad? I want to major in Bio probably, go into medicine so how would this school fit those needs? My high school grades are mediocre so my chances at a top-tier UC are gone. I want to try for UCI but even that is probably a reach haha.

first off, you already fit the profile of a future sociology major (many of whom start off bio). going on the med school is a crap shoot even if you get the grades. as for your question, i was once upon a time a proponent of ucr, hey i'm going to graduate from here, but now i see the light. the people that work here are incompetent scum bags. Bear in mind that this may also be true at other institutions. I'm going to a private for B-school if i can get out of here intact. no more of this garage for me.

It makes people feel good I guess.

The conventional wisdom is that med schools don't really care about what undergrad school you went to as long as your GPA and MCAT is up to par.
