Why does my professor always do this?

I am a sophomore in college and everytime I ask my professor a question he draws out the answer and starts a full blown conversation that lasts about 30 mins or more. It happens everytime I go to his office hours. It doesn’t matter if he has a student before me he still has a long detailed conversation with me. One time I asked a question after lecture and his office hours were 10 mins after lecture and he walked me all the way to his office and had a long detailed explanation for my question. And if he has examples he shows me a bunch of examples. I was just curious as to why he always does this?

Most students complain that they never get a chance to talk to their professors.

@TomSrOfBoston I appreciate it I was just curious as to why. Ive just never had a professor who did this that’s all.

Probably because he is really passionate about the subject and loves every chance to talk about it and is thrilled that a student in one of his classes is asking for more information.

@tucsonmom thanks for the response. Makes sense.

Your prof seems to like you. That’s a good thing. If you are really rushed for time, start the conversation by saying you have to be somewhere in 15 minutes, but does he have time to explain whatever it is.

As the saying goes “I asked him what time it was and he told me how to build a watch”. :-*

You may come to appreciate him when the time comes for a grad or professional school recommendation.
