why doesn't Columbia just announce how many ED applicants it recieved?

why isn't Columbia just announcing how many ED applicants it got? I mean... last year, Columbia Spectator announce in November, didn't they? so why arn't they just telling us 'till december? is it good news or bad news!?!

they just don't love us. that's why.

hmmmm...if they got less applicants, then they wouldn't necessarily announce it proudly and brag about it...?? so does that mean they got less applicants..?? i hope so!

i'm pretty sure it does.

yeah...i called and he said he didnt know exactly, but about 1100

didnt they say on the other thread it was 1100 instead of 1600?

um.. wow... RANDOM

only 1100? wow! gl to all u guys!

Columbia is famous for manipulating its yield rate to get higher US News rankings.

Its a strategy that puts in doubt the type of academic excellence that is emphasized there, but that would be the reason for any Columbia acceptance decisionmaking process. To leave everyone in question, is a way to maximize angst and therefore yield. A fine education that will be.

i don't care...i just wich they'd accept me in early decision....ahhhhh only if they'd recognize my love for them!!

They do. And they enjoy watching it. Its like a publicity stunt all in itself. But hey, hope u get in too. ^^

i wonder if there are adcoms lurking on CC
testing us...

I have had this same worry. However, there is no way to tell who we really are.

hmmmmmmm that'll be interesting....ADCOMS! PLEASE ACCEPT ME!! I guarantee you I won't let you down if you just accept me!

California1600 -

I sincerely pity you. You seem to have a terrible lack of self esteem in whatever college you attend. You go around posting random rankings that place Berkeley above all US schools, and then waste the rest of your time insulting other schools. If you're that insecure about your college, why don't you transfer?

HUH? I think Columbia is a great institution worldwide. Worldwide, its reputation is much better than UPenn. I did not want to transfer at all!

I simply want all schools to focus more on academic excellence for worldwide rankings, instead of relying on factors such as alumni donation rates, yield rate, etc... which takes away from energy that would be better focused on academic excellence. I just don't like seeing students being manipulated, as if life itself wasn't manipulating enough. But worldwide, Columbia's reputation is very very good.

which school do you attend right now cali1600?
and how do u know that columbia "manipulates" us.. etc..
what do you mean by ur post

Um, rankings are BS anyway. There isn't any objective way to measure and rank "academic excellence," this is not elementary school.
