Why does't College Board or ACT use time before results are out as a marketing advantage?

Technology has came a long way since the days when it actually took about a month to score nationwide tests.

I realize that there is a lot involved, however considering that everyone takes the test on about the same date I can not think of a good reason why it takes so long for scores to come out. We can ship something across the US in under a week, shove them through machines, deal with irregular ones, and decide scoring in a period much faster than what both test makers are currently offering. I bet if one of them wanted they could spend more money to get score results out faster.

How come neither of the test makers are doing this? I feel like doing this could be a huge marketing advantage for the company. I sure would like to get my results for the multiple-choice faster.

I will grant that ACT gets its multiple choice scores out a few weeks earlier than the SAT does, however they don’t seem to market to that.

$$$ for late registrations by releasing them after regular registration deadline in act’s case.
all about the $.

They do still need humans to grade SAT essays tho, and since there are only two options out there, if they both don’t try to gain advantage in terms of scoring period, they can both save $. Commercial competition is not always about beating each other. Just like the mobile phone carriers.
