Why Emory essay

So I know you're not allowed to give the location as a reason to why you want to attend Emory, but can you mention the city of Atlanta? Like I'm not saying that Atlanta is WHY I want to attend Emory, I'm just briefly mentioning the city.

I'm just finding it a bit difficult to write the essay, I feel like the only think you can write about is the academics/what program you're going to be studying.

Atlanta is an okay reason, but not a really good one. A specific academic department is a much better subject. Better yet, talk about some kind of RESEARCH. They just love that word.

Which department are you interested in?

Economics. As of right now, the beginning of my essay is about diversity, and then I talk about their economics program and how I’m looking forward to all the research opportunities I’ll have there. Then I go on to talk about how I can do things like volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity (in Atlanta) or even start my own running club, and why I would fit in at the university.

I don’t know if that’s what they’re looking for or what…?

Pretty much, what I want to know is whether or not what I typed above fits into their
prompt: ** Many students decide to apply to Emory College based on our size, location, reputation, and yes, the weather. Besides these valid reasons for making Emory College a possible college choice, why is Emory College a particularly good match for you?**

Understand that this a form of the “fit” question. Presumably you decided you are a good fit for Emory, so just tell them how and why you came to that decision.

Maybe look at what intangibles Emory has that you want to experience if you go to Emory. Examples could be traditions, etc.
