Why Georgetown?

I'm looking for that awesome college experience. I'm from the Central Valley in California, and everyone at my school is either going to the community colleges or a UC. I am the type to do what no one expects. No one at my school is going out of state for college except me (hopefully). Having only lived in California and never been out of state except for LV, I want to see a side I've never seen before. I want to experience a lifestyle that I'm not accustomed to. I want to see and LIVE that East Coast face pace lifestyle. I feel that the East Coast offers a variety of things, rather just the West Coast technology and farming professions. Can I find this at Georgetown? Can I expect to face different ethnic groups, cultures, ideas? What makes Georgetown, worth attending?

*I want to be in a city that has a school which still gives the traditional college experience. I got into UVa and NYU, but NYU doesn't have the college experience I exactly want and UVa isn't in a large city/town. I feel like Georgetown is the best of both worlds. I can picture myself going all out for Hoya basketball. :D

Where abouts the Central Valley are you from? I grew up-and-down California.

As you stated, GU is the best of both worlds. If you want fast pace, you’ll find it in NYC. If you want a campus feel, GU and UVA are the way to go. If you want a small student body, GU is your choice.

If you feel the itch to visit NYC, it’s a 4 hour bus ride from DC.

And if it even matters, summers and winters are more bearable in DC/Virginia than in NY.

Fresno! :)

I’m really drawn to GU. I’m waiting for Financial Aid, but I am determined to go! What’s there to do in DC? What’s there to do within a two hour travel distance?

It’s the capital of the United States, trust me, there’s plenty to do. For starters, they’ve got a ton of museums and memorials, and they also have sports there too (Washington Nationals, Redskins, etc.). DC is the perfect location because you can go to MD and VA too, which have a lot to do as well and they’re only a short metro ride away. For farther away things, you could visit some smaller places in VA on the weekends, like Monticello (Jefferson’s home) and many other things in MD as well. DC is really the perfect location.

What’s your major?

@ Comeupkid
LOL… I grew up in Fresno… attended Jefferson Elementary, Tehipite Middle School, Sequoia Freshman School, and Roosevelt High School before my folks moved to Modesto-Oroville-back to Modesto! My folks have finally settled down in Elk Grove/Sacramento.

You’ll enjoy the DC area. Like CE527M said, there are lots to do here.

Plenty of internships opportunities; lots of sports teams; historical sites ever where you go; and the beaches are 3 hours away.

You can’t go wrong with NYU, UVA, or GU, but GU is a great place.

@futureambassador Business Administration, hopefully in management or finance or international business.

@SFSRules no way?! I go to Sunnyside! Ah! I see! I feel like if I’d stay here, I’d be distracted with having to go to the same school as my friends. I really hope to go to Georgetown! I got picked for the Hoya Saxa four-day trip! :)

You’ll enjoy the visit to GU… it’s a “small” campus. If you’re parents are coming with you, you guys can check out UVA’s campus as well… it’s a 2-3 hours drive from DC. But once you visit the GU campus and learn it’s history, I think you’ll be enrolling there :)

Enjoy your trip.
