Why i feel the campus of ucla is much prettier than the one of berkeley? Anyone agree with me? Cuz i am choosing whether to go to la or cal, cal definitely is a better school for study while la i think has a more fun campus life. So it's hard to decide i guess.

Um…Yes? Are you asking for justification? UCLA is gorgeous. Go with where you think you’ll be happiest… you can’t go wrong with either school.

On the contrary, UCLA, by most standards, is not a “party school”. I lived in LA for a number of years and had numerous friends (not all of them were study freaks!) that went to UCLA,and they all said that campus life is quite dull. However, LA itself is very much so a party city. While CAL may not be best known for its party atmosphere, it has a nice community feel to it (unlike UCLA) so you will probably find more on campus activities to do at CAL than at UCLA just do to the nature of the area. Plus, just like LA you have SanFran near by to offer you some amazing off campus activities! The actual campus of CAL its self though is MUCH prettier than UCLA, hand down.

The UCLA campus is amazing.

LA is friggin amazing, I wished I applied to LA… :(

I visited UCLA twice. Once for the official tour, another to party with my friend’s friend there. She’s a member of a sorority, cute as hell, knows a lot of people so we got around nicely.

I just was not digging it. I think the campus buildings are nice, but once you get inside, they feel kind of dull. There’s usually only people outside on the library walk with tables set up, but the whole “north campus south campus” was a huge turn off for me, being an engineering major.

The girls there, and people in general are very attractive. They dress really nice.

We found an iPod touch 16gb and looked up the owner on the iPod itself to return it to him, he told us not to worry about it. He literally gave up a $250 iPod. So there’s some money tossers at that school.

There’s a huge uphill climb to get to the residential areas and I thought that was a pain. People couldn’t ride their bikes up, they had to walk their bikes up that hill.

San Diego on the other hand, I loved it. But that’s me. Everyone’s experience will be different. That’s why I think picking a school based on name without visiting is a terrible injustice to your own subjective sense of reasoning.

A school is only worth its weight in name if you’re attending certain programs there. HAAS at Berkeley for example, or BioChemistry at Davis or San Diego or for my sake, BioEngineering at UCSD. Beyond that, their name and rank only matters for graduate school. An employer isn’t going to look at your degree and go, “Oh… 3.6 GPA, lots of research, internships… WHAT? He went to Davis instead of Berkeley? Forget this guy!”

So in the end, I chose UCSD over UCLA and my academics won’t suffer from it. My school is ranked higher than LA for my major and I love the campus. But that’s me. Let your own heart decide for you.
