Go To UCLA

I go to Cal. 4.0, made some lifetime friends, yada yada....go to UCLA. It's a better city, the reputation will exceed Berkeley in the next 15 years, people are nicer, the weather is better, the living conditions are awesome....i could go on. Anderson < Haas but unless you are business major or a nor-cal lover. Go to UCLA.

maybe it's Friday night in the middle of midterm week but people aren't happy here...check out the Berkeley forum, you'll see.

Really? When me and my boyfriend drive around Berkeley during our trips to SF, we always see people walking around outside having fun, eating out, going to a cafe, etc. and I’m pretty sure there’s ways to have fun over there, like if you get involved in clubs and stuff. Or is it too impossible because it’s super cut throat and there is constant studying?

not impossible, im not in any established clubs or anything. I played an IM sport for a semester and made a good group of friends, but it’s just easier to do stuff and there is more stuff to do at UCLA…

cut throat…i didn’t feel that, but then again, i’m not doing too bad in school.

oh, i’m not going to answer any questions. I don’t come to the UC Transfers forum much and I don’t plan on changing that. I get good grades, I’ve met a lot of people, I’m generally happy, but I think I made a bad decision turning down UCLA.

Fact: Berkeley is hoboville.

Fact: Bears eat beets. Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.
(Lol sorry couldn’t resist.)

I know people who regret turning down Cal for UCLA. And a really close friend of mine actually moved back to Berkeley after moving back home (after she graduated) because she missed it so much.

any one who goes to one or the other will have some regrets to think what if I went to UCLA or Cal instead

I haven’t been to Berkeley, but just from reading this website’s forums I also hold the belief that UCLA is a better school, haha. I will go there over Berkeley.

Yay a few people that see things the way I do! haha, it was never a hard choice for me, I’m a socal guy and UCLA was always my dream school so I love it every day. guess i just got lucky like that.

@eshug - For seriously. Grass is always greener…

Incorrect. Cambridge has many more, and several public universities are right on Berkeley’s heels.

Berkeley does have a decent amount, however.

By that reasoning, Brown and Princeton must be horrible choices for law school preparation.

The most important factors are GPA and LSAT, and there is little difference between [average LSAT scores](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/760585-mean-lsat-scores-top-universities.html) at Berkeley (159) and UCLA (158). Both are at the 80th percentile.

Berkeley’s is 1230 1470

I’ve lived really close to SF all my life, so naturally I would prefer the Berkeley atmosphere. I like great, ethnic foods, cafes, concerts/shows, and I’m fairly firm on my political and social beliefs. Not to say that UCLA/LA area wouldn’t provide these amenities or similar ones, but I’m so accustomed to the SF/Oakland environment that I really think I would prefer staying in Norcal/going to UCB.

@ vintij: How come you’re under a new sn? Did the mods ban you under your original username? Either way, it’s all good. Btw I’ve heard that UCB actually doesn’t give preference to their undergrads for grad/law/med school. In fact, I’ve heard that you’re generally at a disadvantage. Now, I’ve only heard that on this site, so I don’t know how much merit that statement has. Nevertheless, it is a bit disconcerting.

UCD or UCSD > UCB or UCLA … for me :)

yellow, why’s that?

@ vintij1 first off who the heck are you? anyway i hear from cal students that their law department has a very high rejection rate of their own students. ucb believes that they should go on to new expeirences and at the same time wants students from new universities. they say if you have your heart set on ucb law, do your undergrad somewhere else.

^ yeah if you were the real vintij you would have responded with a mind blowing poem on the nature of identity.

I go to Berkeley and I too wish I’d picked UCLA instead. But this is not because of Berkeley’s academics/social life/etc. It’s just that I HATE the city of Berkeley. It’s poor, dirty, crime-ridden and full of weirdos. I’d much rather be living in the UCLA area and basically now think (grass-greener-other-side?) that I would’ve been happier if I’d picked the “lesser” school.

So as I posted in another thread, this has got to be expanded a little. Computer science, several aspects of math, etc etc are found best at Berkeley, sort of how LA is undoubtedly more known for film.

Hey Mathboy,

I’m considering an Econ/App Math program, UCLA has a great math/econ program, how is app math or econ at berk?
