Why is acceptance of Jesus the ticket to heaven?

Like, that's the point of Christianity, right? Accepting that he's your eternal savior? Why is that so important? Isn't it considerably more important to just live a life of character and love like he did -- in which case, don't plenty of non-Christians deserve a place in heaven?

This is all theoretical, of course.

I'm just a little lost on the significance of the concept, is all.

According to Romans 6:23, “for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life…”

What is meant by this is that any of our sins whether they be physical or in mind are punishable by death but that Jesus Christ died on the cross as the living sacrifice for our sins. Not accepting him as our savior would leave us to bear the wrath of God for our own sins.

You have a choice here rachael525. You can think for yourself or you can follow go along with what a group tells you to think.

Who says it isn’t? The premise of this thread is silly.

It goes that humans who are full of sin are separated from God who is perfect and abhors sin. Therefore the way to get to God is through Jesus who paid the price for all humankind’s sins, leaving humans “white as snow” in God’s eyes. That’s the logic behind it.

Of course, someone who has truly accepted Jesus will live a life of love and character.

(unlike that crazy baptist church in kansas and other ones like that. they use jesus as an excuse to be bigots.)

Assuming the viewpoint of a Christian Heaven.

Different sects have different ideas on this.

My Roman Catholic religion teachers have always emphasized action over words when regarding this topic. I’ve been taught that as long as one lives a life of meaningful service and abides by a solid sense of morality, then one has the potential to gain entrance to Heaven. The logic behind this is that all religious teachings are fundamentally the same: be good and spread goodness, and that actions of good will are much preferred over empty words. So it wouldn’t matter what group you fall under, as long as you, like you said, lived a life of character and love.

Do we REALLY need to open up this can of worms? -.-

No. We should leave that crap to the politics section of CC.

Jesus was a Jew. That always amuses me, and I’m too lazy to write anything particularly compelling.

I don’t get why some people choose to ignore that. If he was Christian he’d have to accept himself and model his life after… himself.

Surah Nisaa’, verses (156-159). As for the context of these verses, Allah, the Exalted, mentions the fabrications of the Jews, their slander of Mary, their rejection of Faith, and claim that they killed Jesus son of Mary - the Messenger of Allah. Thereupon Allah, the Exalted, declares the falsity of these claims and says, “And because of their saying (boasting), ‘We killed Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah,’ - but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but it was made to appear to them so.” [an-Nisaa’ 4:157]

SO WHAT EXACTLY HAPPEDNED THEN? Allah, the Exalted, raised Jesus son of Mary to the sky. the Jews, failed to harm him, let alone kill and crucify him. This is a clear and unambiguous text that carries no room for another interpretation. It states clearly that Allah, the Exalted, raised Jesus to Himself - bodily and his soul - in order to save him from the Jews murdering and crucifying him. Allah, the Exalted, says in the Quran, “But Allah raised him up (with his body and soul) unto Himself; and Allah is Ever All-Powerful, All-Wise.” [an-Nisaa’ 4:158]

After establishing this point, another Quranic verse follows in the same context of the ones that preceded. This one clearly bears evidence on another return of the Christ (peace be upon him) to the earth and that he will descend from the sky. The purpose of this is the crucial role he will play upon his return to the earth. Allah, the Exalted, says, “And there is none of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) but must believe in him (Jesus son of Mary as a Messenger of Allah and a human being) before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection, he will be a witness against them.” [an-Nisaa’ 4:159]

What do we learn? He isnt dead. Hes coming back, fighting a war (in which he’ll win), live out the remainder of his life, and then die like another human being. A prophet/messenger is a human, no special “powers”. Thats my 2 cents (and the 2 cents of 1.8 Billion others) :D

And this is interesting because … few things follow quite so logically as modeling one’s life on one’s own principles…?

Can this thread not please turn in to a biggest dick contest between uppity, pre-modona Christians and PMSing angry atheists?

Hint, win someone over by proving your religion without mention of any religious scripture.

I’ll try not to be a pre-modona

one time, during a vocabulary/spelling test that required cursive…

Teacher: The next word is xenophobia… xenophobia.
Student: Ugh, how do you write a z in cursive?

aww. haha :D

^^Lol.

I like how page 2 of this thread has no relation to page 1. I think we’ve all got our own philosophy and it’s stupid to try to explain to others.

“I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier!”

That’s a bold statement considering its placement smack dab in the middle of page 1.

“I put the laughter in slaughter.”
