Why is life not fair?

I have worked my ASS off for 3 years in hs. I have perfect grades, have participated in sports and clubs, done community service etc. Ive had my sights set on a top uni. But it all was shot to hell because of my SAT scores. for some reason I did poorly and now im being told I havent a chance at the schools I was hoping for. Its the second time I did poorly on it and I took a prep course too. This sucks. Im a smart guy, im a urm, I look good except when it comes to this damn test.

I dont need to post my stats just trust me when I say ive done pretty well.

What did you score on it? Also, what schools are you applying too? Furthermore, please reveal your gpa, sports, etc.

Try the ACT. It's worked for several of my friends.

life is never fair.
just learn to live with it :]

I worked my ass off, got a 3.4, (3.2 soph+junior) got a 1330 on the SATs and now I can't go anywhere I want (which wasn't ivies). I don't find it unfair. If you have a 4.0 and a 1250 on the SAT you can get into some awesome schools, even if it isn't harvard. If you have a 3.4 and a 1350 it's hard to get into places. Either way, if you have a 4.0 you should be intelligent enough to score a 1200 on the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test, if you truly are "apt" there is no reason that you can't get a 1200).

If anything, it's unfair to the kids who go to very difficult private schools with a small grade so that if you go from 25th to 26th in your class you are suddenly in a whole other league.

But I digress, if you have a 4.0 and a 1200, hell even 1100, to 1300, and good extra curriculars you can get into some very good schools.

Sorry, dude, but that's life.

Why should it matter that you're an URM? That's no excuse for poor scores. Anyway, I digress, just apply and see what happens.

I mentioned that im a URM to further my point that I had a very good chance at "dream" schools before I took this bastard test.

no offense, but stop complaining. Get your butt on it!

Ive pretty much thrown in the towel. I took the test twice, once after a review course and still didnt improve. I dont think third time is a charm. I wanted to go to UNC(im oos) but now its not gonna happen. I'll live but it just sucks when you've worked so hard for something and then realize you cant get it.

supereagle: If UNC was your dream, why don't you try UMich as an alternative? They highly prioritize GPA over standardized tests for the most part....Check out their EA acceptance thread for stats of those that were accepted in the fall of 2007, but you have to apply early!!

Apply and see what happens. And don't be afraid of one more retake after some recreational reading (NOT test prep) during the summer.

perhaps you can find solace in the fact that death is fair?

life cannot change due to only you. right now SAT is the most important kinda test to give colleges information about your ability. now I focus on SAT rather than any other tests in class. :|

Ever thought about the ACT? :)

Did you really score poorly -- or poorly by cc standards?

lol good point, youdon'tsay.

to supereagle- it's not going to make things better by sulking around. i hate people like that (not you personally, but in general). they complain after they 'fail' yet they don't do anything to fix the problem. maybe you're taking the wrong approach to studying. you still have time, so make good use of your summer to review and practice!

I know now that I have no other choice but to give it another shot. i have nothing to lose and i can study all summer so some of you guys are right. thanks for the encouragement. Oh and I did poorly by any standards let alone MY standards. My teachers and friends were stunned when I didn't do better than I did.

I have a 4.0 and scored less than 1900/2400 and less than 1300/1600
So don't complain about low scores :p the only thing you can do is try and retake them :)

Don't let is stress you too much. SAT isn't everything.

I have a two friends who got less than 2000 and both got into NYU..

I have another friend who got a 19 something and is going to Harvard. Albeit she is recruited for track, but the point is still proven!
