Im sure a lot of Illinois residents will be making the same decision. NU or UIUC. If i wanted to work in business in the future. Why is an NU econ degree better than UIUC business degree?

I cant find Solid statistics for NU econ graduates. So, what is your opinion on the subject?

thanks rm that is something I was looking for. I have to ask because although I would much like to attend NU, I have to convince my parents that it is worth it and better than UIUC. Something they dont believe and one of them actually attended NU.

@olleger: the OP is asking for suggestions to convince his parents… i think he KNOWS that NU is superior to a 35K student state school…

Arguments:
-UIUC would lead you to “lose yourself” in the 35k student body
-NU has a $20,000 cap in loans for each year… so you’ll only graduate with at most $80k in loan, which isn’t bad considering the pricey education in other schools
-Obambam, with his stimulus, is increasing federal grants for education within the next year or two (political partisanship aside, this can be a helpful)
-Career-wise if you go into business KELLOGG is unparalleled… it’s number 1 for goodness sake
-it’s your choice… where YOU will ultimately be happy

In what it sounds like you want to study, NU is better. Is it the extra money’s worth? NU is only worth full tuition vs in state tuition at UIUC in some areas.

And this is coming from one of the biggest NU boosters on the board.

NU is better in the sense that there are more prestigious firms coming to NU. But that doesn’t mean at the end, you would be better off going to NU. In the event that you don’t get any of those offers, paying $$ extra could make you worse off. Just keep in mind whatever decision you make, there’s always an element of risk. While there are seem to be more better opportunities at NU, they won’t be just handed to you so easily.

Another thing is UIUC does have one of the best accounting programs and while NU doesn’t have accounting.

Obviously the much better programs, much better students, much better professors, much better facilities, much better reputation, much better recruitment by top firms, much stronger culture of excellence etc.
