The thing about Transformers is that you could TELL when they were at Princeton (sheild, etc). Penn was difficult to distinguish for the average movie-goer.

I would take a gander and say the average person wouldn’t know Princeton’s shield? You would have to be involved and somewhat interested in the Ivy League to conjure up enough information to know it was Princeton.
I agree that Penn doesn’t do a fantastic job at marketing itself to high school students, but let’s face it, it still gets recognition as possibly the best Ivy after HYP. Penn is also widely known to employers, which is ultimately what matters. Just because your friend or neighbor is too stupid to know the difference between Penn and Penn State doesn’t mean anything. They aren’t the ones hiring you for your next job. The fact of the matter is that with your Penn degree you will get hired as their boss.
The reason Penn is placed above the other Ivies is because it has some amazing statistics and great faculty. People who downplay it clearly have a grudge against the school and just are naive when it comes to a good education and the important things in life.

we can start reversing the trend with HYP on CC forums and start referring to WHYP in at least the wharton/business careers threads. (and if you say it, it sounds like “wipe” which downplays harvard’s importance because the ‘h’ is silent)

Transformers 2 was awesome, what are you talking about?!

And to a pretty dumb-sounding name at that. Booth? On the most visceral level it sounds like a toddler’s gurgling. Or when you get more sophisticated you can debate whether it elicits visions of toll booths or john wilkes…

Ahem…isn’t that ALREADY the policy of computer use in Huntsman? Maybe this brilliant UA candidate should campaign for the Penn to merge its College for Women into SAS…

lol. but i would never vote 4 someone who advocated that. i’m going to make a point of never using computers at huntsman b/c idk to me other students’ not being able to use computers even tho they’re students seems 2 much like not being able to sit on benches even tho yr a resident (in the american south pre-civil rights movement). i’m protesting.

bagels, he wanted to keep it that way. Maybe there was slight consideration that maybe they should open up Huntsman computers to everyone (which they should) but this kid wanted to keep it the way it is.

I’m fine not being able to sign up for study rooms (there are easy ways around this) but its insane to block Penn students from a building with that many computers.

I feel that in the era of near universal laptop ownership, it’s not a big deal as long as they supply power outlets and wi-fi.

I’ve had dozens of reasons why I needed to use computers in Huntsman (let night printing being one of them). If I wasn’t taking a few Wharton courses I’d have to trek all the way to Towne.

Venkat: You didn’t want to have a printer in your room? I’m planning on having one on my desk for convenience’ sake.

I had a printer freshman year that died on me after first semester. I’ve usually been able to survive off of the dorm printers, but I had the great luck of having Harrison’s printers break down for a few weeks right when I needed to do a lot of printing. Luckily other dorms lock you out after 2AM so I couldn’t just run over to Harnwell.

I’m not sure if this is totally the reason, but someone told me once that Wharton kids pay more tuition and have a technology fee. Please correct me (snidely of course, as Penn CC’ers are wont to do) if I’m wrong. I used to be very, very creeped out by the Huntsman computer thing, until I found out we pay more. Let my tuition be the same as that of CAS and then everyone can come use whatever they want.

i don’t think i’m paying more. that would be weird. someone find out i’ve never heard that b4. i think that’s probably not true

lol i just found out that utah state’s school of business (jon m huntsman) is the same guy that the huntsman program is named aftter. kinda funny how his son (jon m huntsman jr) attended utah state and then transferred to upenn

^his son was also Governor or Utah, now Ambassador to China, and his granddaughter graduated from the Huntsman program at Penn.

Omniscient knows that the real news is actually the converse of the OP’s concern. Penn is rising. A college is built a program at a time, which then uses profits to subsidize other programs. Same with media attention. It starts with the business school, then branches off to the nursing school. Pretty soon, the breadth of the university will reach its depth. It takes patience. A virtue (ironically) worth developing right now.

idk even know if i pay a technology fee?!? how do i find that. this is ridiculous.

^look at your tuition bill. it’s all there.

Is that all the technology fee is for? I was wondering what it was when I received my first bill. Kinda high just to use computers at Huntsman…
