Why is Penn so staggeringly bad at marketing itself to applicants?

I double checked, and tech fee is the same in College and Wharton. I pay as much as a Wharton student to not use Huntsman…

^ good point, i’d suggest to send that fact to numerous school officials (including Amy Gutmann) - someones bound to take action?

^if they care they would know this. maybe i’ll shoot an email to the undergrad deans at Wharton and CAS. i doubt they care though.

Yeah feel free to go back to hating on Wharton’s administration or whoever is responsible for making Huntsman Hall’s resources exclusive. Whatever happened to that “one-school” policy?

guys don’t hate on Wharton :>
I think Wharton does enough for Upenn (image/money) to deserve some kind of perk. Besides, Wharton is one of the professional grad schools so it is a bit isolated from the rest of the undergrad kids.

that’s such crap. u should protest too. y is exluding some other students a “perk”? and the grad school thing is not an argument. there are cas grad schools 2

and ppl don’t apply to penn b/c of wharton they apply b/c they want cas or something so yr point doesn’t work. y would anyone not interested in business care about wharton?

i’m not using huntsman mark my word.

let’s stop talking about this though b/c we’ll make prospectives not like penn.

for prospectives: this is the only bad thing about wharton and penn in general so don’t worry and don’t use huntsman

Moreover it’s a non-issue the moment you enroll in any Wharton class for whatever reason. You get a logon to access the Huntsman computers (which, btw, are not limited just to irritate people in CAS and SEAS, but because they have special wharton-specific software installed on them (stat, real estate, marketing, some other stuff).

I wouldn’t call Wharton “isolated” seeing as it’s in the middle of campus (med and law schools are a bit out of the way) and has a sizeable undergrad program (like 10 times that of nursing). It really doesn’t affect me that I can’t use Huntsman computers except when I’m signed up for a Wharton class. However, the fact that it exists while the other schools don’t do it makes me a bit irked.

I’ll bet you $100 that by the end of first semester MGMT 100 will force you to use Huntsman outside of class :)

Wharton’s been a great tool for my undergrad. If only it had fewer tools…

i wouldn’t really want to have to fight for computers with plebeian CAS students…jk jk

i applied to wharton and i thought of myself as weird. i mean a 17-yr-old knowing she wants to be a business woman- there’s nothing superior about wanting 2 get into business when others at penn want to be doctors, lawyers or want 2 do humanities stuff. idk. that’s the way i feel. i mean business doesn’t have a great rep… but that doesn’t matter

now, let’s get to the bottom of this huntsman deal. do cas/seas/nursing students use huntsman for non-wharton classes?

this is the key question b/c if the answer is “no”, i wouldn’t feel badly about using huntsman computers 4 a building designated 4 wharton classes.

One of my friends had a non Wharton class in Huntsman. It’s pretty rare though.

I don’t go to Penn but I’m assuming Huntsman is a building? How does it relate to the Huntsman program (besides the person it was named after)?

I would say it’s no comparison between Brown and Columbia or for that matter, Brown and Penn. Dartmouth’s focus is quite different (i.e. undergrad, LAC type). Also, for those who segment CHYMPS or CHIMPS or what not from the other ivies, the Swedes don’t really share that view. I found happymedstudent’s “no one touches CHYMPS” comment quite amusing.

If you look at recent Nobelists, say last decade, Columbia (13) and Harvard (12) dominate the list, followed by Penn (7).

I didn’t know Penn was doing so well in Nobels…awesome!

John M Huntsman has a lot of money. He has the Huntsman program named after him and they have their own program building on Locust. The main Wharton building is also called Huntsman Hall which is right across from the Huntsman Program bulding.

wow so huntsman has 2 buildings facing each other on penn’s campus?

btw i went to high school with his grandkids. we knew the guy… he made a ton of money by stealing an idea from our family friend lol. the idea was related to food packaging or something

Venkat: What non-Wharton class did your friend have at Huntsman? It was probably a fluke. I mean I don’t mind not using the computers there because if I don’t have classes there, I’m not going to go there.

SusieBra, it’s open 24/7 and has wifi (and not ONE but TWO caf

It’s the most convenient 24/7 building (for the highrises anyway) open to all students. You’ll go there or Van Pelt depending on where you live.

what’s wifi?
