why is rice expanding its size

people tell me that they hate how rice is expanding its class size because they want to have on campus housing for all 4 years but keep getting kicked out because of room shortage.

Also, if rice hadn't decided to expand its class size, its accepance rate would be like 16 percent, which would improve its rankings and prestige.

I'm just wondering. thx

Here's a link to Leebron's "call to conversation" and follow-up discussions in the Rice Thresher. You can read about the need for the increase in size. If they hadn't stayed a Div I school, the increase might not have been necessary (though Leebron cites other reasons-- and wanted to attract better faculty and increase grad programs which required a size increase) C2C Call to Conversation

*******Here's a better article about the decision to increase Rice's size. Go down to the bottom and download the powerpoint presentation. Its very helpful A Vision For The 2nd Century | Vision: Size

As for the first claim, Rice is currently building a bunch of new Res Colleges to address that very problem.

Well, two new colleges, at least. I don't think the administration ever plans on guaranteeing housing for all four years.

Dd enjoyed living off campus. theendusputrid, no offense intended but I am curious; where you get your info? My understanding from your other posts is that you are a high school student from Dallas bound for J.Hopkins (congratulations on your ED acceptance, by the way. :)) Are you considering transferring to Rice? You seem to have a lot of information for someone who isn't a student!
