How do you guys know that Rice will be expanding its student pool?

I read one post, buy I couldn't ever find a link. My interviewer told me that they were gonna try and expand, but I didn't know how much. They have like 750 students per year that enroll, do you think they'll double that or what?

check the post called "advice on rice" I posted all the stats from last year's entering freshmen. I took it from a booklet that was only given to faculty last year. I recomend sending the SAT, what about ur sat 2's?

google "call to conversation" or C2C on the rice website.

it has been a big debate. i hear the current president wants to keep it small thats why rie is so unique and selective

uhh...no. The current pres wants to increase rice by 30-35%, and there is a bit of opposition to his plan. I, for one, am in support of most of his plan - increasing graduate funding and increasing the student body size would attract more highly qualified profs, increase the research being done, and give Rice more academic prestige. The only main problem I have with rice is that it's academic reputation is somewhat limited by its size (although the quality or quantity of programs really isn't).

No, actually the current president, Leebron, wants to expand.

http://cohesion.rice.edu/administration/presidentsoffice/c2c/index2.cfm

I think it's an awesome idea. Increasing graduate funding and increasing the student population would attract more highly qualified teachers, increase the research, and give Rice more academic prestige. it's not going to be in effect just yet--Leebron has stated that before expansion of the student population, they need to add more beds. Thus, two new colleges are being built within the next 10 years.

oh, and doesn't he want more TAs teaching?

really? i like the small student body. it reminds me of high school. thats the reason i wanna go there because i feel like i will get to know everybody in my undergraduate class. i read an article that said that they are considering a law school and a medical school for prestiege.

Rice has about 3000 undergrads...increasing that by 1000 or so will still make Rice I think the 3rd smallest university of its caliber...it's still plenty small.

if rice creates a med school...competition w/baylor would be fierce. i'd like to see how that turns out.

its not about competition. baylor has a really good relationship with rice. Baylor broke away from baylor university in the 50's did u know that? well, i think it is just something they want to do for prestige u know? for example, harvard has a really good medschool and law school. it would benefit rice to have one.

Actually it separated in 1969 ;) I agree--it would benefit rice to have a med school, but i just think rice med wouldn't be as prestigious/competitive/good as baylor...who knows after 100 years, though.

alright alrigh...69....whatever. hahaha. it would take a while for it to be prestigious. my dad and i weree talking about it the other day. i would go to baylor over rice med school if they start it while im still there

agreed. :) finally...

the internet at baylor is regulated, just like in high school, and there is a curfew. you cant have visitors from other dorms in you room, even if they are students after a certain time, which i think sucks. That was what turned me away from baylor, plus you are required to take chapel. They dont usually tell you this stuff, so some of my friends transferred out after the first year.

we are talking about baylor med...not undergrad...

yes yes...baylor college of medicine...no affiliation w/baylor university in waco (ie. no where), tx.

One of the reasons I applied to Rice was because it was small. Also, having 2 more colleges would make me feel insecure. And it wouldn't make all the Martel-hatin' so viable anymore.

post #5 and #6 = biggest double post ever. are you guys just plagiarizing or what

haha. NOT. look @ the times...

huitz: "increasing graduate funding and increasing the student body size would attract more highly qualified profs, increase the research being done, and give Rice more academic prestige."

apollo: "increasing graduate funding and increasing the student population would attract more highly qualified teachers, increase the research, and give Rice more academic prestige."

if you can't laugh at yourself for that, i feel sorry for you.
