Why is the meal plan such a rip-off

I'm applying for summer housing session C, which is only 6 weeks. I get the following options (don't consider apartment or studio):
Residence Hall; Double Room - 15 meals per week - $2,041.00
Residence Hall; Double Room - 21 meals per week - $2,301.00

that's 6 extra breakfast in the latter choice = 36 extra meals

$2301-$2041=$260 $260/36=$7.22

A $7 school breakfast? What kind of thing is that?

welcome to unsubsidized summer meal plans.

School needs to make money somehow.

just wondering, what do they serve in breakfast? if it’s english breakfast and fresh fruit salad everyday, I might as well not bother DIM

plus its not necessarily just breakfast, you can look it as 15 meals=3 meals a day then go home on weekends while 21 means 2 whole days of food at 7 dollars a meal… still kind of a rip off but better than 7 dollar breakfast? but seriously why not get an apartment, im paying 1000 for a session (kinda expensive but close to campus) and leaves me 1000 bucks for 6 weeks of food…

no one eats breakfast at ucla.

As far as the menu goes, it’s pretty standard:

Omelets, Hash Browns, Waffles, Scrambled Egg, Bacon, Breakfast Sausage, Pancakes, Cereal

And tons of Bakery goods. Muffin, Scones, Donuts, Croissant, Cake, etc.

the omelets are worth it. the only reason i would ever wake up early.

there are no custom omelets during summer, only ham and cheese.

well, in that case…wow. that sucks.

You pay for convenience. End of thread.

Just do a two meal a day plan, grab some extra fruit for the next morning, and you’re set!

Hell, I think it’s MUCH CHEAPER to actually live off campus… you can have a room to yourself, w/ private bath, for anywhere from 800-1400, but it all depends on the location and luxury you buy.

Well thanks for all the advices

I’m international so I want to stay in campus for the first year

deuces is right, I’d probably pay for convenience (or laziness)

lol, room for yourself @ 800 dollars a month… It’s cheaper, but not too much if you live in westwood like I do (since you usually have a 12-mo lease). If you want to go further out, you get nicer amenities for around the same price (the market is rough around here). I stayed on campus two years because it was convenient, fun, and let me focus on school.

Where can you get your own room for only $800? Is it South of Wilshire? I’d be interested in getting that…

Who eats breakfast? Hello, most important meal of the day is dessert.

^ I LOVE breakfast. (Dunno if I’ll like it at UCLA, but…) OMG! All that syrupy goodness along with meat patties and sausages. Oh! And soft moist pancakes… drools

I think it will be a bachelor. If not, it will be sharing an apartment (but having your own room) with an adult who works 9-5.
