Why is Trigonometry not UC transferable?

California community college

oh okay thanks Christian! LOL

To Jet Statistics at the 100 level(lower division) would count towards general education math, but not as one that fufills an upper division class for stats or math majors.A lower division 100 level stats class is allso offer at UCs and CSUs.

The course we know as Trigonometry was designed by the Math Departments of Community Colleges to create some revenue for schools.

If you haven’t noticed, Trigonometry is just the first couple chapters of a Pre-Calculus book.

its 4 units equaling $112.00 not including the book you have to buy. That $112.00 is a disgrace and nobody should be paying it.

The class is a scheme. If High Schools do not have a Trigonometry class, than Community Colleges should be damned to have one.

^ Couldn’t be further from the truth. Trig is very important to have a solid grasp on before moving into Calc. Even if it is only a small part of precalc, I would recommend taking trig just to brush up on your special angles and trig identities. They definitely come in handy later on.

I agree with talebi818. There is no need for two classes (Trig/Pre Calc). Just a way to add another class/term to your stay at a CCC.

lol! there are 2 guys named uchopeful. are u guys related?

I was Justchecking on the UCSB website and apparently the reason why trionometry is not transferable to THE UC is because its considered remedial. http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/pdf/GuidetoCourseTransferability.pdf</a> This is a small excerpt from the article below. Here’s the link:UCSB Admissions counselors are not able to evaluate coursework prior to receiving a student’s
application. This guide is intended to help you understand which courses will transfer to UCSB.

  1. If you are applying from a regionally accredited college or university, compare the catalog descriptions of courses you have taken to the descriptions of similar courses in the UCSB Catalog ([2009-2010 UC Santa Barbara General Catalog](http://www.catalog.ucsb.edu)). Courses that are the same as undergraduate courses at any UC campus generally are transferable if they carry the same or similar credit, prerequisites, level of instruction, and content. If you are offered admission to UCSB, your courses must be reported on an official transcript. Do not send transcripts (unless directed to do so) until after you have been admitted to UC Santa Barbara.
  2. Courses in traditional academic disciplines (for example, science, literature, humanities, and social sciences) are generally transferable. The following are not transferable:
     Courses that are vocational, technical, or professional in nature (e.g., advertising, real estate, electronics);
     Remedial courses (for example, trigonometry);
     Personal enrichment (for example, time management).

Which is weird because Trigonometry has a prequisite of intermediate algebra and is CSU transferable.
