Math Requirement for UC TAG

Hey guys,

I asked a similar question a month or so ago, but after reading around a bit more, am not completely certain of the answers I was given.

So this is my FIRST year at De Anza (I will begin my 3rd quarter on Monday).

I want to transfer to a UC by Fall of 2012. This quarter, I will be taking Math 114, which is not transferable. I will then take:

Math 51 at Foothill (Trig) - Fall of 2011

Math 49 at Foothill (Precalc) - Winter 2012

Math 1A at DA - Spring 2012

Math 1B at DA - Summer 2012

On the TAG website it says:

"A California community college applicant who:

has first UC transferable math course in Fall of 2011".

From the looks of it, will I be unable to transfer by Fall of 2012?

Why don’t you take College Algebra or Statistics while taking Trigonometry? Those are transferable and only have a prereq of intermediate algebra (typically).

or better yet, take Trig over summer and then take Precal and Stats (or College Algebra) at the same time. that way you will have taken care of your math transferability and you will be ahead in your whole pre-calculus sequences.

Never even thought of that ! Thanks for the suggestion. So, from the sounds of it, Precalc and Trig are NOT transferable, correct?

So the option you’ve stated is basically the only one way for me to be able to get out of CC in 2 years?

whoops, I take back one of my statements. If you DO take Trig during summer and you ARE able to take Precalculus during Fall 11, you don’t need to take College Algebra or Stats at the same time cuz Precal is transferable. I don’t know why I said that…my bad.

Precalculus is transferable, trig is not. So yeah, if you want to transfer by fall 2012 you’ll have to complete one of the following math classes during Fall 2011 (Next semester)

Precalculus
College Algebra
Statistics

If your school won’t offer Trigonometry in the coming Summer session, you won’t be able to take Precal during Fall 11 so you’ll need to take either College Algebra or Statistics during Fall 11.

Thank you. So basically, if I want to transfer to a UC, you need to take a transferable math at LEAST 1 year before you transfer ?

what??? did they change it where you only need one precalc class to get into math 1a???

Edit: wow I just checked and it is different…
there is no more math 49a and b
