Why isn't there a better tech school in the Pacific Northwest?

Talking to a friend who is at Washington State U makes me a bit hesitant to stand by my original impressions. Engineering and math both sound good there.

Washington State University’s selling point is the Edward R. Murrow College of Communications. Other strong programs are veterinary sciences, business, agriculture, plant sciences, zoology, molecular biosciences, material sciences and engineering.

Western Washington only has engineering technology courses, right?

Congratulations, you can quote the Princeton Review :P

Haha…you busted good old Pierre. He means well but is “ubiquitous” on these boards.

I know Western Washington fairly well, but engineering is not the area I know. So I have to take a pass on that one. But their website seems to confirm what you say. Also UPS is a great school and I believe they have joint 3-2 engineering program with several top tier schools like Columbia, WashU-St. Louis and USC. Check Gonzaga in Spokane as well. Whitman in Walla Walla is a superb LAC. But I believe it doesnt have any engineering programs.

If you look at my original post from the first page, you’ll see that I was referring to the types of top-tier private schools that exist in other regions. Reed is probably the best school in the Pacific Northwest, amazing school but certainly not up to the level of the best school in other regions. And did you just call UAB and Birmingham Southern, among others, as examples of a ‘great school’?
