I have an alumni interview in a few days and I haven't been able to visit campus or anything, so just a general question for anyone who had visited/gone to Middlebury, why do you like Middlebury?

Beyond it’s academic reputation and it’s having strong programs across the board of his interests (in case he, like a lot of freshmen, changed his mind along the way), Son hadn’t visited prior to being admitted either. However, he already knew he wanted a small DIII school and it didn’t take much to see online that it was in a beautiful spot. He also really liked the diversity of the school in terms of international populations and felt the small school in the middle of nowhere didn’t isolate itself from a more global feel. And this carried over to the opportunities to travel abroad, even if he didn’t go for an entire semester. He learned a lot from outside sites too like here and a few others like u n i g o. But it wasn’t until spending a day and a half on campus that he knew it was the school for him.

If you’ve done your research on schools, you put it on the list for a reason (and while it’s good PR, hopefully it was more than being #3 on the USNWR list).

It’s a wonderful school but not #3 on the USNWR list (it’s actually tied for fourth along with Wellesley). Still, it is amongst the very best if one is looking for an intimate, residential, liberal arts education. The faculty and the facilities are top notch and put that all together in tiny Middlebury Vt. and it should create a unique and memorable four years with opportunities to form lasting connections with both faculty and students.

good luck with the interview – they are usually quite pleasant and relaxed conversations where you are encouraged to be yourself.

oops… sorry… I never knew where it was until this fall so those kinds of statistics were not any part of the discussion when looking at schools. My error. My point was speaking more to applying to schools based solely on some arbitrary reputation that has little to do with your being there and not the number in the least.

It has a beautiful name :)

Ha-ha just kidding. The Green Mtns are beautiful, the town is beautiful although the town itself is not as diverse as the student body of the college. A lot of international students.
