Why MIT?

The title speaks for itself. Feel free to share!

(head explodes)

nice question, i'm only applying there, and here're my reasons:
- good econ/CS departments, and nice science classes, too
- hack and mystery hunt
- friendly, nerdy kids (a guy i know lives in a floor where a lot people major in course VI; kids make fun stuff and hold birthday parties for each other)
- their homepage, ocw, the hi-tech feel everywhere
- financial aid, nice admissions people and website
- hm, i know the numbers of buildings and courses there, love the look of Stata center etc. This is ridiculous!!! :D

why not MIT!?

other than the fact that it is beyond amazing, here are a few of my reasons why i <3 mit.

1) Pass/ fail- 1st semester. encourages students to take classes they might otherwise shy away from and for them to work together rather than compete with each other.
2) Profs who actually care. lots of research oppurtunities.
3) Anna's- best quacamole ever. cheap mexican food- always good for the college student on a budge.
4) Boston- what a superb city.
5) Mit is about innovation and not tradition. I heard somewhere that while MIT was building it's simmon's dorm, the one that looks like a giant sponge or waffle, princeton was building new dorms as well. The difference between the two colleges is that while princeton's dorms followed tradition, MIT wanted to try something new.
6) Way cool hacks

I mean seriously, why not MIT!!!!

vanilea, my understanding is that 1st semester is Pass/No Record. Second semester is Grade/No Record.

I did not know that 20% of the undergraduates play a varsity sport.

At the Info Session, the Admission Officer said that MIT is collaborative, that students work on homework assignments in groups. Then talking to students, it was confirmed that this is really true.

The greek houses are across the Charles in Boston.

well, not all of the greek houses.

and i ask myself this question everyday, and i still don't know the answer. maybe when i graduate.....

Yup, true story. About 80% play intramurals, but presumably some percentage of the varsity kids also play an intramural, so the two populations aren't independent.
