Why Mizzou?

Why did you chose Mizzou and what do you love about it?

The only reason that Mizzou was on my radar to begin with was its reputation as a great school for journalism. Still, I thought actually attending Mizzou was a long shot for me. When I came to visit, however, that all changed. The campus is really great (at least better than anything I had seen in the northeast). If you haven’t been on campus, I strongly suggest it. It’s small enough that it’s manageable, but big enough that there’s a lot to do and see. The J-School impressed me on my tour more than any of the ones I had seen, including the Newhouse School at Syracuse. I was also looking for something very different than where I came from, and Mizzou offered that for me.

As far as what I like about it now that I’m attending, it’s a lot of the same stuff and some new stuff too. The campus still amazes me sometimes. I also found that the people here are great and it’s easy to make friends. You have the opportunity meet new people every day and that’s really nice. There’s a lot more I could say, but to avoid ranting, just let me know if you have any other specific questions.

How intense is the journalism curricula? Specifically the Strat Comm program.

I actually just transferred out of Mizzou because of a major change but while I was there I LOVED it!
There are so many people from the Chicago area there that it is almost surprising. The majority of my friends were either from Texas or Chicago and so my floor of my dorm was very out numbered to Missourians. There is so much to do on campus and Columbia is about 2 hours from both Kansas City and St. Louis which is really great. There is a lot to do in both cities and it is pretty easy to get there.
Another great thing about the school is the sports aspect. I’m not a big sports fan but I loved going to all the football games. It’s a really great way to get involved in school spirit and you really feel into the “We are Mizzou” tagline. It’s so much fun.
There is a huge greek presence on campus but it’s not too overwhelming. I did not go greek but A LOT of my friends did. I never felt left out of anything but sometimes it can get a little lonely during homecoming week when everyone else is getting ready with their frat/sorority.
Mizzou also has reallyyyy good dorm food. It sounds so weird to say that but that was actually one of my favorite parts along with the insaneeeee rec center.

Over all, the only bad thing I can say about Mizzou was that it ruined my wardrobe! I wear black and gold everyday now!
