For those of you with first hand knowledge, could you tell me about the major advantages of Montclair State University? I am not looking for comparisons with other schools or long lists of gripes. I am essentially asking a question similar to what an applicant might be asked - Why Montclair State?

Compared to Rutgers, MSU is more technologically ahead.

Thanks jduster.

Montclair’s proximity to New York City is a great tool. The classes offered are great and opportunities on campus to perform are in no short supply by any means, but it is really nice to be able to easily commute into NYC for that special master’s class every so often or that really big audition. Also Montclair really turns out true triple threats. A lot of musical theatre schools slack a little bit in the dance department, but Montclair offers a wide range of dance classes at different levels that catch the performer with little to know dance training up to where they need to be at the end of their four years at MSU and push the experienced well trained dancer. Clay James is great! He cares about everyone of his students but is also always there to push them and give them a hard dose of reality about how the business works in the professional world. All of the teachers in theatre, dance, and voice, are incredible! Both MSU graduates and current students are finding work including in tours and on Broadway. Check out the website, it says a lot. And make sure you visit the school. Everyone is so talented and it’s a wonderful, positive supportive atmosphere!
