Why Nashville? Time Magazine Makes the Case

In the before conversion version of the CC site, there were multiple threads in this forum through time questioning the worthiness of Nashville as a place to spend 4 years. This great article from Time magazine really sums up the current Nashville vibe and addresses the challenges the city faces as it moves forward. http://time.com/13819/the-souths-red-hot-town/

I’ve accessed it twice and don’t have a subscription. D forwarded it to me and I know that she doesn’t have a subscription either. Not sure why you had that response, Maynard.

Not sure either, but for me it says “To continue reading: Subscribe Now or Sign In”. Thanks for posting it though.

I got the same thing as Maynard.

same thing here too;

article shows the following then says must sign in;
It was, I think, the hum. At Midday recently at Joe Ledbetter’s BrickTop’s restaurant in Nashville–a busy spot on West End Avenue near Vanderbilt University and the city’s Music Row–the Tennessee state commissioner of economic development was lunching nearby, at a table adjacent to the head of a private K-12 school. The rector of the city’s largest Episcopal church sat in one corner near the general counsel of a huge privately held technology company that migrated to town from the West Coast a decade ago; the head of a major private-equity firm was in a booth across the way, debating between the bistro chicken and the Cobb salad.

Sorry! I’m now getting the same thing, but the gist was that Nashville is leading the way with a strong health care economy, strong presence in the music industry (not just country music), strong education (with quote from Chancellor Zeppos), and that metro government had made lots of growth possible. They did mention the government challenges from having no income tax included insufficient funding for K-12 and talked about that being a priority for the current mayor. Maybe VU will have some kind of link on their homepage and I’ll be able to cut and paste. It was a nice shout out for Vanderbilt.

Got our copy of Time in the mail on Saturday – wow, what a happy article! Worth picking up the magazine when you’re at the store. Really getting us jazzed about spending more time down there! Thanks for the heads up.

I’m not sure why, but I’m now able to access the online article in its entirety. Before I was only seeing what @lindz126 and others saw. Very interesting article.

I am able to see the article on line now. This is very timely as we are taking DS to visit VU as an admitted student…

That’s a nice article and sums up the growth and vibe of Nashville. Nashville is a wonderful city for young adults to live in and the students love it. The parents like Vandy’s location in a nice, safe area.
