Why no summer tests?

I had a few students ask me why there aren't summer SAT/ACT tests, even if they were-late June or mid-August? I didn't have an answer other than they just didn't want too, maybe staff is hard to hire, everyone needs a rest. I would think the students would be more relaxed, have a little more time to study after finals, no sports, school EC's, etc. I know GRE's (apples and oranges I suppose) are different, but I just wondered if any other parents thought that idea, just one more "summer stress" or a more relaxed test day?

i think summer tests would be awesome. fall is impossible for testing with other activities. no spare time to spend on studying for SAT or ACT, that’s for sure!!

and school here start’s in august, so even if they only had testing during the school year, august would qualify.

College Board need summer vacation even if you guys don’t
other students need time to prepare tests too.
think about if stock market open 24hrs, what will happen?

College board would schedule summer tests if they thought that they could make money at it.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think if they did one, whether in late June or August, they wouldmake money. Sure a certain number of parents and children go away during the summer, etc. even in our economy, but I think quite a number of students would love to take the SAT in August than October.
But, they probably just want it off, it involves more than just that one test day.

I am guessing that it is probably an issue of having consistent access to facilities, though I would think they could offer summer dates with fewer sites (so sign up early or you miss out). I also wonder how hard it is to find proctors.

How about APs in August and January? D’s school is on the 3-classes-per term system. AP classes taken in fall does not see a test until May!

I would have loved this idea when I was in high school. But yes, I’m sure CB would do it if it were profitable (which I am sure they have determined it isn’t, otherwise they would be available).

I wish they offered summer SAT tests too! Kids have more time to study in the summer, plus the interval between June and October is too long IMO. I have a hard time believing that they wouldn’t make money if at least one summer test date were offered.

I agree the test sites would be harder for some, but if they did less places, when they were gone, they were gone. I can’t believe it wouldn’t fill up…students take SAT prep classes then and I’m sure they are busy. It is a question to ask CB if the chance came, but I find it hard to think it wouldn’t be profitable.
I noticed the ACT is doing Sept. for all 50 states this year when it was less last year, they must have found it was warrented.

i think it would be great but understand why it may not happen. in this area the ACT is the test of choice, very few do the SAT… last weekend my son took the SATII subject tests and he was the only one testing!! in the other room for the SAT, 3 students were testing. the proctor actually thanked my son for turning up so he would get paid. (the site was a local cc and the next closest place was about 25 miles further away) if they only offered it in sites where it is popular they would probably take some heat for not offering it everywhere

The tests are usually administered in school buildings and the proctors are school personnel. Neither may be available in the summers.

I guess that would vary by distract. Our high schools are open during the summer with summer school, AP prep classes, classes by teachers with special interests (one year D’s English teacher had poetry for 3 weeks)
My D is taking the ACT today and she was bushed, many tests this week and finals soon. She wished she could just take it in a month, but you do what you have to do.

just a practical thought - in NY, most of our schools don’t have air conditioning. It would just be brutal to have the kids sit for this type of exam in a very hot classroom.

I’ve sat through many a dance recital in the schools in June, and the parents would usually complain the most about how hot the school was-
So the school building condition may also be a factor as to why these tests aren’t given during the summer.

This was my thought Marian.

^ That, and they have to analyze and revamp the tests sometime.

It is hot in the summer, and not all schools have A/C.

Plus, it is hard to get teachers to come back from vacation to proctor one test.
