why not an apartment?

im an incoming freshman and i was looking through the housing rates.
I can get a nice university apartment off campus on galey for about $6000 but to live on campus on in the cramped dorms it costs 11k+.

why is this? why dont i hear more people talking about getting apartments? i assume you dont get a meal plan with the apartment.

what are the pros and cons basically is what im asking.

Particularly, most freshman live on campus because it is easier to make friends and the dorms/plazas are much more social than the apartments. Most apartments are for upper division students or graduate students, so it's less social and harder to make friends... especially if you are an incoming freshman.

Firstly, I don't think freshmen are eligible for university apartments. Also, you will most likely regret not having experienced the dorm life at least once.

Why not just pick a hall instead?

You have to buy your own food.

freshmen cant get university apartments. hell, its super hard for upperclassmen to get them too. dorming is much much easier for at least your first year, especially if you're not from around LA to actually look for an apartment here.

As an incoming freshman, you're really going to want to social aspect of living in the dorms. Most of your friends first year will come from people you meet in the dorms.

Also, you get a meal plan. Kinda hard to beat not having to make your own food. :D
