ok, so I putting starting a chance thread because I can't bear the wait anymore and I'm hoping for at least a few good second opinions (maybe from students at Oberlin?).

I'm don't really have an artsy background and I only have o.k. stats but here goes:

3.63 GPA uw, icky midterms (a B in AP Chem which counted for two classes, a C in Spanish, the other 3 As in APs)
ECS: Speech and Acting from soph-this year. That club sucked up a lot of my time, was very involved in it but only slightly successful (went to sectionals last year in SOS). This year I was kindof like a junior captain for it. Did Debate Frosh and Senior yr. In other minor clubs like a service club, biggest thing done there was Relay for Life Fundraising.
SATs: 630 m, 740 v, 660 w (for a different sitting)
SAT 2s: in the 620-640 range for all three tests.

Regret that I neva did the musical stuff in high school, I always did love singing and used to be in musicals/singing troupes as a kid. Also wish I had learned an instrument. I guess thats part of why I want to go to Oberlin so much.. I'm an artist waiting to get out, lol.

I have got decison even though I am int'l...........Why haven't u got the decision yet?

internationals get their responses first at Oberlin. Anybody have an opinion? Seems like the few times I post chance threads they never get answered, must be the way I post my stats (or the accidentally misleading title? sorry about that, want to change it now but its too late).

You have a fair chance, I guess. No one can really tell. Good luck!

I have nothing artsy on my transcripts either. Will tht pull down my chances? I like to draw but I didn't take any art classes after 9th grade.

Oberlin is not the best place to do that--unless you're in the conservatory, of course. Regular students have to pass an audition to take lessons on an instrument, so you have to be really good already. The music teachers are too busy with the highly accomplished conservatory students. But I understand you can take non-credit music lessons with a student teaching you.

Other comparable liberal arts schools, without a conservatory, are actually more open to non-music majors who just want to start an instrument as a hobby.

I suppose you're right about learning an instrument from a teacher, but I'd be perfectly fine learning how to play from a student too (Is it conservatory students that usually offer to teach or are they way too busy? just curious).

I also have heard that Oberlin has a great music scene as far as just finding a good concert to listen to, which really appeals to me. So I guess what I'm saying is the instrument thing doesn't really bother me.

I didn't apply to too many liberal arts places to be honest, they weren't really under my radar until I learned of Oberlin (which was kind of late in the college game). So I'm crossing my fingers for an acceptance but if its a rejection I won't really be shocked.

Honestly, Chance threads are worthless. By this point there's nothing you can change about your application, either your accepted or your not. If not, I'm sure you'll go somewhere (no matter what academic record) that makes you happy and have a wonderful life even if you don't get into your #1. Just wait it out and you'll be fine. Besides, other people's opinion of whether you get in doesn't matter. If you think you have a chance, go for it!
