"Why NU" essay

"did you get in?"

-Indeed I did...

"also another question: is there any difference in fully applying by September 15 or November 1st ? is there priority for early applicants in ED period?"'

-I highly doubt it.

Yes, My essay is written as such. blah blah blah (Fill your college in here) blah blah blah.

^profound...

The "Why NU" doesn't appear to be an essay so much as a short paragraph or like 2 sentences. Am I missing something?

that's what it looked like to me. i'd already written this big essay and then i saw this little space about as big as this post is gonna be. i almost cried. does anyone know if we can attach an essay or do they not want that and probably not even read it? help!!!

if they give lines..I'd imagine they want it to be in that spot. I really don't believe they are looking for anything elaborate...im sure they just want to see what about NWU appeals to u...be it the curriculum, majors, professors, location

i dont think that is the place to be creative...they just want a straightforward answer in as few words as possible

I'm attaching an essay. They ask 2 pretty big questions for a paragraph.

If the application indicates that your response has to fit the space provided, do that. I hand printed those, very nervously. LOL

Re: The Why NU questions: My application from last year reads "all applicants must respond to the following question in no more than 300 words. Your response must be typed and submitted on a separate sheet of paper. Type your name, date of birth and secondary school at the top of the sheet.

You guys better read what's in front of you or your application will get rejected outright because you didn't take the time to carefully read the directions.

They are looking to disqualify applicants because the applicant pool is so large. You better pay attention!

(copied straight from the NU website)
Statements
Northwestern Statement
What are the unique qualities of Norhtwestern-and of the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying-that make you want to attend the University? In what ways do you hope to take advantage of the qualities that you have identified?

Statement on Research (blah blah blah ^and that about how much space you get)

honestly guys, i started off with a quick fictional memoir about my fictional visit to Northwestern, then used some generic template (with like, what I wanted to pursue at NU/etc.) inserting Northwestern as the university name..i dont think they put that much weight on the "Why NU" essay

so you said you went there and you didn't? Why would you do that?

huh....

where in the application does the "Why NU" essay's gotta be minimum 250 or 300 words? I can't find it!

it doesn't. i just talked to my college counselor today and she said for me to just print out the supplement and attach of copy of my essay. but like somebody before me said, they don't look into it too much.

sorry but i'm still confused. to answer the "Why NU?" question, I should attach an essay of max 300 words?

To get back to the matter of length of this question. If you look at the supplement online at the common app site, it limits the answer to 1000 CHARACTORS, not words. It also says you can upload a document if you wish. So how long or short should this be?

i'll read it

So who ends up reading the abstracts for research that we've done? Would the department heads/faculty in the department be called in to give it a read or?

i am also kinda of stuck for my NU essay… i think its really easy to fall in the category of praising the school…i really wish i can dig sth out which is unique hopefully.hope someone could give some head start for me…

any senior who got accepted wants to share their essay ? i would love to read it…
