• We would like to know more about your interest in NYU.
• We are particularly interested in knowing what motivated you to apply to NYU and more specifically, why you have applied or expressed interest in a particular campus, school, college, program, and/or area of study?
• If you have applied to more than one, please tell us why you are interested in each of the campuses, schools, colleges, or programs to which you have applied.
• You may be focused or undecided, or simply open to the options within NYU’s global network; regardless, we want to understand –
• Why NYU? (400 word maximum)
I’m not sure how to approach this question. Should I incorporate an anecdote (similar to my UC app) or should I just get to the point and clearly state why NYU. Can anyone perhaps outline a structure?
I’m also applying to NYU and am FINALLY very happy with my essay. I’d say that the best way to approach it is by connecting the dots - think of what NYU prides itself in and wants you to notice about it. Think about what is unique about NYU, its location, and what opportunities that provides. Also think about your future goals and how NYU would better prepare your for that than any other college.
When I visited NYU, all I heard about was DIVERSITY and LOCATION. NYU prides itself hugely in its incredibly diverse student body - only 33% of its students self identify as white - and its prime location in lower Manhattan. Think culture, internship opportunities, and out-of-class learning. Talk about how these key elements will provide you with a further understanding of your study. If possible, incorporate your intended major into it. If you’re going for sociology, then explain how NYC is the best place to learn how people interact. If you’re going for business, talk about how its location near Wall Street will provide you with incredible opportunities. If you’re going for something artsy, then talk about how New York City is the home to Broadway, MoMA, The Met, and some of the most famous theaters and music venues in the world.
Do your research on the school and the city, and incorporate their unique assets into your life. Show that you’ve developed a clear understanding of the school’s goals and you really feel that they match with your own.
Hope this helps, and I’d be happy to look over your essay when you’ve created a first draft
