Why Reed? (vs. Amherst)

I’ve also posted a discussion on this topic in the Amherst forum. Yes, I know there are old threads on this topic, but they’re old… :stuck_out_tongue:

Why Reed? I’ve been accepted to both colleges, and I’m having a time deciding. There are bits of both that I like and dislike. I wanted to ask those who’ve had any personal experience with Reed. Why did you like about Reed? What did you not like? Also, what is the music like? Practice room availability?

I love: my professors, my classes, the cherry trees on campus, the cats and beavers and owls that live in the Canyon, the bowling and juggling classes I took to fulfill my PE requirement, some of Commons’s breakfast food, the main quad at night, the MLLL, and other things I can’t think of right now.

I don’t love: the dogmatism and solipsism of much of the student body, people complaining about their work all the time, badly dyed hair, freshmen who lack personal hygiene.

I’m sure Amherst has a beautiful campus and an annoying student body too, like most liberal arts colleges. If you can afford to visit both schools, you should. Your preference might reveal itself as a gut reaction to something you see on your visit(s).

If you’ve already visited both, which one did you find more appealing?

@Ghostt, thank you for the reply! I’ve visited Amherst already, but I won’t be able to visit Reed (school stuff and money/distance issues). My gut instinct to Amherst was that it’s super small and family-like. And that I don’t like small schools, but it’s not like I have a choice anymore, haha.

Well at least you could escape the Reed bubble by going to the city? Amherst and Reed are v different and I’ve covered this extensively in one thread at least.
